    Opinions on Web Site Building

    Hello everyone!!

I am building my site at GoDaddy lately and it's like I have a bunch of ideas that I wanted to inlcude in my site. But I know for sure that if ever these ideas will be included in my site, it might look like a topsyturvy one. Do you have any tutorial site where I could learn the basics of building simple sites?

    Thanks.

Do you mean learn about the coding itself? This is our web development forum. There's lots of stuff there. Or if you have specific questions you could just ask me here. I'll be happy to answer.

Thanks JPnyc. I have just logged in to that web development forum. I was actually asking about site content. I have lots of things in mind to be included in my site but basically what are the things which I should and should not include? Are there any do's and don'ts related to this stuff?

First, I wanted to include some very attractive things on my first page (this I am not sure what to include really). Was thinking if I could feature some products like my top picks from eahc merchant site or perhaps several celebrity items . Then some links to my HISTORY, OVERVIEW of my site as an affiliate, line of merchants with which I am affiliated with, etc. What do you think?

Sometimes, I have lots of things to be included at my first page. But I am sure there are limits. Visitors would only look at the pics and links, I would love to add fun articles that would catch their attention making sure they would come back again and again. Please give some primary basis or considerations as to choosing the right things to be included at the first page. Thanks.

If you're selling a product or products, then articles would be a bad idea. 1st it would take up space that you'll need to show your products, and when people are shopping they don't stop to read articles.

Mine is just an affiliate site not a merchant site. I was thinking if I could have a little space at my first page containing my top picks or perhaps the latest styles/trends. Other than pictures I would like to include a little discussion about each product like what to wear them with, the best time to use them, etc. Do you think this is a good idea?

    Hey epitome

    Are you selling anything?
Are you an influencer? Meaning, do you influence sales?

If you truly seek advice, what are the goals of the site?

And to answer your question, YES there are do's and dont's. Web site goals dictate the scope of each site. Without such guidance/restrictions, the Web would be a membrane of incoherent crap. This is my personal belief…

Take the time to organize!!! Site strategy must be outlined before development and implementation.

That's all I can offer tonight! A little drunk and.... LMAO!!!

I'm an affiliate so more likely I do influence sales because I refer people or customers to those merchant sites with which I'm affiliated with.

As to organizing things on my site, I will really keep that in mind. Perhaps that's the reason why I'm kind of disoriented and undecisive lately. Thanks Spawn.

You're drunk? Why? Playing like Edagr Allan Poe?
