Newbie question
I want to setup a simple ecommerce site with a shopping cart and credit card purchases. I asked IX Webhosting about this and they told me they provided this service with their hosting plans. They said all I needed was a merchant account and my site can be created and maintained via their control panel. IX Webhosting has inexpensive hosting, about $7.00/mo for what I need. My question is: how well do these bundled ecommerce solutions work? Should I instead buy hosting software? There seems to be a wide range in prices for hosting software solutions. How much difference is there between a $60/mo solution v.s. a one-time software purchase? TIA.

Hosting option is a good one
Going with a hosting provider's tools is definitely acceptable for a small e-commerce site. Most will offer a business or e-commerce package. The prices will vary depending on whether you want credit card processing, e-mail newsletters, analytics, and so on.
You should map out not only what you need, but what you may need a year or two from now -- you don't want to have to switch hosting providers. Also, many of those tools are heavily templated, so you won't get much flexibility.
You can also look at hosted services such as Nexternal or Netsuite, among many others, that offer turnkey e-commerce solutions.

Newbie question
A lot of inexpensive e-commerce solutions are based on templates, whereby you or the Web host designer simply cut and paste pictures and product details into a pre-packaged secure e-commerce system.
In order to determine if this will work for your business, you have to decide what's more important -- cost or flexibility. It's a pretty straightforward tradeoff.

Nothing like if you get an Internationally recognized company, which can provide you with almost all those features which your E-Commerce site would require. You will not have to select either cost or flexibilty, if you seriously try then you can get the lowest cost and flexibility also with one company. I am sure you can get all in one if you go through the website of my tried company:www.ikobo.com, you will end up saying that someone really provided you good direction to save and to get the best from the E-Commerce solution industry.

you can explore paypol and ikobo . Both provide merchant accounts. Ikobo's fees are lowest than paypol. Ikobo is economical. You can make a comparison at their web sites to determine which one is more economical.
