Question QuickBooks Enterprise - Peachtree Premium - And Add Ons

    Hello,

I am in the process of finalizing a Small Business Software Solution for my client. After some research I have narrowed down the list to two: Quickbooks Enterprise Solution 6.0 and Peachtree Premium Accounting for Manufacturing 2006. Both these versions are relatively new and I do not have a Real feedback from customers who use them on a daily basis.

Somewhere on this forum I came across the thread Peachtree to QuickBooks. After reading the thread, I am curious to know why one would change the accounting system and if it has something to do with the quality of the product? Is it because Peachtree has problems or is it that QuickBooks Enterprise really good? Or something totally different?

As per our needs, we are looking for a package with solid Inventory solution with bar-coding /tracking/Bill Of Materials/PO/SO as well as Core Accounting features. The basic criteria are system should be user-friendly and must have good support (implementation and all).

I am aware that we might need to buy some third party Add-ons like Bar-coding (which is not included in both the solutions). Then again how well they integrate with the solution? If we decide to buy something like Fishbowl as Add-On, (which is more expensive than QuickBooks itself) it takes over the entire inventory part, the question is then do we need the enterprise solution or just the core accounting from QuickBooks?

Peachtree told us that we do not need any third party add on except bar-coding wizard.
QuickBooks advised us to get Enterprise version even if we add on Inventory module.
Fishbowl insisted that we need only core accounting from QuickBooks to go with fishbowl!

Your feed back about these softwares and their performance with Add -ons is highly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    InfoTechSpl.

    Hi InfoTechSpl,

I'm not sure about the motives of the posters in this group, but people can want to change for any number of reasons. Reasons such as the vendor gives poor service, or gets bought out by a company not favored by the consumer, or if the software has problems that can't be solved, are all reasons that the customer might want to change.

I know that QuickBooks makes things difficult by encrypting all data under the guise of security. Whether this is security for them (Intuit) or security for the end user is a discsussion best left to those wearing Philosopher hats (mine is at the tailor's today), but the end result is that it is extremely difficult to get the data in a free and productive manner.

    Check out Quasar Accounting. http://www.linuxcanada.com

Quasar is a 10-year mature product being used by tens of thousands of companies worldwide. It has enhanced inventory controls designed specifically for manufacturers and distributors. While it does not have the installed customer base of QuickBooks, its price is very competitive - $0 in some cases - and it is a solid product. What this means for you is that instead of your client needing to pay someone else upwards of $1,100 for PeachTree or $3,000 for QuickBooks, your client can pay you that money to give them a solid solution. Or you can give them a solution that's thousands less than what you're currently considering.

    Thumbs up Few solutions listed

If you are looking for integrated softwares out of the box application then you have Everest, if hosted solution then you have NetSuite. For hybrid model you can look into Interprise Suite and Evolution.

Evolution is located in Canada and also checkout Everest Reseller http://www.EverestERP.com in canada, they can help you out in implementation and support/customization.

If you want more information visit my website and look under Enterprise section.

Thank you very much Jazzcat and InfoSourcing for your suggestions.

I will look at Evolution, Interprise Suite and also at Quasar but I am not so sure if hosted solutions will be the right fit for this company.

As for Everest, the price tag is discouraging. I read some good reviews about QuickBooks Enterprise version but couldn't get good feedback!

    Thanks,
