Hello,

I started my company last October and recently (a week ago) launched verion 1.0 of the website http://www.klearskysolutions.com. I was hoping to get some non biased feedback. Does the website clearly explain who we are? Is it interesting to browse (as much as a business website could be)? Suggestions about layout, content, flash usage?

Pros: Website looks very corporate, nice usage of colors, it has a theme to itself...

Cons: Sorry to say that website has some bad interfaces and from search engine stand point for the following reasons.

1. Having flash is ok, but having navigation inside a flash not good, as your site doesn't link to any other pages for search engines to crawl think abt it, if you view source code of the HTML page there is absolutely no link to other pages on top, in the bottom there are text links but for engines the higher they get the better it is ...

My suggestion, remove the flash part for navigation and try to create the same look and feel using CSS and DHTML to give same effects and let the links be text instead of images

2. Inside pages all the content looks fine but they are all in frames big "no no" from SEO point again stay away from frames, any reason why it should be in frames, if the user has to scroll let him do so it is ok...

3. On home page you have lot os bullet points make all of them linkable to servicem, approach and industries pages depending on content, so user can read and click and let them go inside it is a matter of few seconds if you won't let them to navigate they may drop off the site

4. Have some kind of submission form for contact us page allowing them to reach you regarding your services that would help ...

5. I noticed you have client quotes in few pages why don't you create a seperate page called Client Quotes/Customer testimonals and put all the other ones there and in every page where you have client quotes put a link below which says "See other quotes.." that provides exposure to other quotes too ..

What he said above. A Flash nav will absolutely kill any chance of high organic search engine rankings. Further, even without respect to that, it's a bad idea to rely on Flash for navigation. There are many people now who still use IE but use it with activeX disabled, for security reasons. That cripples IE's ability to load the flash player, so your site would be unviewable to those users.

Don't jump all over me, but...I believe SEO is very important for most sites, and have done a lot of SEO work for clients, however, sometimes websites have to be creative expressions to attract certain types of customers. Let's don't forget that websites can be "closers" as follow ups of other marketing communications. I beleive most users want rich content and will leave their browsers configured that way.

I provide programming services for a lot of design companies, so I see a lot of site designs, and I think your design team did a great job. Kudos. I found the site easy to read, good use of white space, and overall is very professional.

Why not close the door to email harvesters and make your contact page either a form or use some of the javascript encryption techniques to write out your email address.

Add a "sitemap" page to your bottom nav, then link to every page in your site on that page to help get spidered.

That's my 2 cents...

I agree, your website is the biggest factor in closing a sale. But the effect on this site didnt require flash. You can get the same effect with Javascript and/or CSS and lose no SEO.

Thanks for the responses! I appreciate the positive feedback for the site design, and the caution with regards to the usage of flash and frames for search engines, etc... Interestingly, I don't know what SEO is, however, I'm sure that my design team will.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Many people mistakenly think that as long as they have keywords in a meta tag in the head of the document, that is all the SE's require, but that's not really true. In fact meta tags are maybe 4th or 5th on the list in terms of most important page elements crawled by spiders. Page title is 1st, followed by text links, then text around the links.
