Importance of Google PageRank

Even pages that barely have any mention of the search terms, if their PR is high enough, will still outrank lower PR pages that are purely about the search term.it's very basic but if you search for anything on google you will see that pages with higher PR list higher than pages with lower PR.

Search on Google for "house", and see if whitehouse.gov (PR10) comes to the top of the list.

Sorry, not true. There are numerous sites with PR 1, 2 and 3 at the very top of SERPs for the same keywords as sites with PR 7, 8, and above. PR does not contribute much to SERPs, contrary to what some "experts" would have you believe.

We said in prior postings that its more about content then anything. However, it does have to do with backlinks etc. Page Rank is just an indicator of how important a website is..like how much traffic a site has, content, and tons of other things that measure a website. Its very confusing, but all in all I dont think PR matters much

So PR is just like a side effect of increasing traffic? Like a progress indicator, if you have high PR you are doing well?

I think higher page rank matters especially when into online marketing because search engine search for quality content and reliable topics and also a nice keyword too.

And none of those things has much, if anything at all, to do with PR. None of them will give you PR and PR will give you none of them.

According to this thread there is no such thing as PR. If I take it as true then also the relevancy of Traffic is there too. If you are linked to such a site which has a good traffic then the chances of getting a good traffic for your site is also increased.

It jumped from PR0 to PR4. Lots of original content in good English, plus lots of backlinks.
