    Which Shopping Cart for Drop-Shipping

If this post is in the wrong place, I apologize.

I am trying to find out what others who drop-ship are using for shopping carts.

I am a newbie and intially, all of my products will be drop-shipped, so it is imperative that I get it right.

For alot of reasons, I do not want a custom system built, and want a hosted solution. I'm trying to take as many things out of the equation as I can to make it as simple as possible.

So far I have found the following hosted carts that have some sort of drop-ship capability. What I'm trying to find out is just how good they are at it. We all know they say they can all do everything....

3D Cart - I have not heard good things about their customer service

Nexternal - nice software, great customer service, very expensive monthly fee for a new business

Core Commerce - They get high ratings all around, just don't like their templates - not the "high-end" look and feel I want.

X-Cart - Just started looking at them. Heard their software difficult for a newbie. They also charge for customer service, and again, budget is a concern.

Can anyone comment on these or recommend others to look at? There must be some people on this forum who drop ship and didn't have a whole shopping cart custom designed.

I will be working with a web developer, so I intend to have the front-end customized, and the shopping cart as well as much as possible to get the "look and feel" that I want. What I don't want is to have to depend on the developer forever to be able to make product changes. So a system that is easy for a newbie to use is also imperative.

It appears the "easiest" "turnkey" solutions like Yahoo Stores and Amazon Webstore do not allow much customization, and also don't really handle drop-shipping.

Any help would be much appreciated, and again if I have posted in the wrong place, I apologize, and please let me know where I might be able to get an answer to my question!

    Thank you.

Take a look at Volusion. They are on the pricier side, but their customer service is good and their software is very easy to learn. They also offer a 2 week free trail. 2 of the stores I have in my signature are done with them. The other is custom.

    Thank you.

That's good to know, because one of the web developers I met with said it was a "horrible" shopping cart, so I looked no further. I will take a look.

Do you do (or your customers do) drop shipping wtih them?

I did drop ship when I had my personal site, but did not tie it in through the shopping cart. I kept track of everything manually.

Have you looked at either Prestashop or Zen Cart? both are fantastic open source e-commerce store software that can be installed with one or two clicks in most hosting companies cpanel.

Both have good support along with lots of free/paid for add on modules and templates to get your store how you like it.

If you are using dropship suppliers then most will supply their product details by either XML feed or by CSV file and both cart software will support this.

eCommerce Templates has some drop-shipping features, including the auto-email to the drop-shipper. But I don't think it can do shipping rates from multiple locations...

I am not sure who told you that 3DCarts support was horrible. I have never had a problem with them. They are fast, professional, and have never not been able to help me with any issue that I have had.

All of the products that i sell are drop shipped and 3DCart handles it really well for me. All of my manufacturers require an email order sent to them which 3DCart automatically handles when a product is sold.

I would take another look at 3DCart. Check out their support forums. forums.3dcart.com

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I too am looking for a "drop ship friendly" hosted shopping cart.

So far I like Amazon Webstores since they handle the credit card processing (I don't have a merchant account) but reviews on them haven't been that great.

    Any suggestions??

Zencart has worked for me on smaller-scale sites in the past; how much volume do you expect to push?

Unless you want a no-touch system, any e-commerce shopping cart that displays products and takes orders should work well, no? I say this because you can always just email the drop shipper each time you get an order.
This might even be a better system because you can check each order for accuracy.

Automated scrips to a great job of repeating tasks, but humans have gut-instincts. I've saved myself thousands of dollars in just a year catching fraudulent orders by using the 'gut check'

You should go for magento, it's the top shopping cart these days. Totally flexible and feature rich gives total control over your store.
    Cheers!
