I think it doesn't matter if you are submitting one article to a hundred directories as long as the article is not published in any blog or on your own website.

Sorry, but I cannot follow the logic of that. Can you explain?

Google recognizes duplicate content..whats the point in posting on multiple article directories? If you post on just one..like article base..or article alley...you will get a lot of traffic trust me.
-
Try to write unique content only, most of the people use to submit same article in 100 of article directories.. so not a big issue
-
The latest word is that Google does not penalise duplicate content. It tries to index the best copy (judged by its surrounding context or whatever) and not index the other copies. If you want to submit 100 copies of your article to 100 directories in the hope of 100 backlinks, you have to edit them about until every one of the 100 appears unique to Google.

If your content matches other content or it is obviously similar, such content should be avoided greatly. When you copy the content of other sites, it is referred to as duplicate content. When there are huge blocks of content on many URLs, it is duplicate content. Pease don’t post duplicate content.

Some duplicate content may cause pages to be filtered at the time of serving of results by search engines, and there is no guarantee as to which version of a page will show in results and which versions won’t. Duplicate content may also lead to some sites and some pages not being indexed by search engines at all, or may result in a search engine crawling program stopping the indexing all of the pages of a site because it finds too many copies of the same pages under different URLs.

How can google NOT penalize someone for duplicate content. Your saying if I go on one of my blogs right now and post the same thing over and over and over again its ok? Google will just look at my blogs as having great, amazing content and index them more and up my SERPs. I dont think so...duplicate content is horrible..no dice

If you must put words in my mouth, kindly spell them correctly. No, we are thinking that when Google comes across duplicate content, it will only offer one of the duplicates to searchers.

Copy/paste the first sentence or two in Google and hit "Search". A good method to uncover tons of plagiarism.
BTW, I didn't really edit your post. I just hit the wrong button when I was setting the quote. Sorry about that.
