Yeah totally agree but its 'buyer beware' and that applies to PPC / CPC as much as anything else. I guess if you are getting targetted by click-fraud then all you can do is either a) use a different form of marketing, or b) use click-tracking software to build up evidence of the abuse and use that to get a refund from Google, or whoever you use for your PPC.

I didn't read every single post on this thread, but when I read your original post, I felt compelled to answer.

One thing I want to say is in order for you to get free traffic, you will have to have unique/original content on your pages. If your company provides the site, and you have no control over the content on it, then getting free traffic is going to be very difficult. The reason is if there are 100s of sites exactly like yours, the search engines are going to rank the earlier-created sites above yours, because they're all the same. Or it may not even show up in the search results.

If that is the case, online marketing may not work well for you. However, you could try some PPC and if you are very good at creating ads, you *might* gain advantage there, but be very careful. PPC can shrink your wallet faster than anything if you don't watch it. And if the above paragraph is the case, your traffic may bounce right back out after you've spent a ton of money.

What you need in order to compete effectively online is to write pages that are complete unique. You need to research keywords to find search terms that are in demand, but have low supply. If you provide information people are looking for, and your content is valuable, you will establish credibility. Eventually, people will start looking at what you have to sell. When they trust you enough, they'll even buy from you. When that happens, you have gold.

It's not super fast, but it is proven and effective.

And it continually changes. Google, for example, frequently change their algorithms, causing drastic drops in serps for some sites.

Every time some SEO "expert" finds a way to beat the system, Google amends the algorithms to filter them out again. The goal is to list the most relevant sites (according to user inout) and Google (and the other major SEs) do a pretty good job.
