Where did you get that idea that Search Engines are changing constantly their algorithms?
Technics that worked in 1998 are working same in 2009. Internet changes and that changes your SERP but not algorithms.
Most of this those kind of claims are "bullshit" from a persons who like to call themselves SEO specialists and scam unaware clients.

Hi,
I really dont suggest you to submit to the directories unless they are very commanding directories and have good editorial review, directory listings are not having good value when compared to link building listings from the business are of other sites
-
sure it's important but in heigh quality directories only
-
i think it's important but for hieght quality directories ,don't submit in any directory
-
Directory submissions are no more important as per the major search engine point of view. The major search engine google has changed its ranking algorithm and kept back the directories. But still if we could submit the internal pages for good directories it could do some good for your site.

Directory submission is effective so that it can give you the permanent link.
-
In this contemporary era directory submission is considered to be an obsolete concept and it has little importance today. Factual traffic on internet is not reliant on Directory submissions to get fame. At that very point one has to realize the authenticity.

Large highly ranked and relevantly targeted directories are okay. Google does not like reciprocal links of any kind - it's considered an artificial way to increase your ranking, even though zillions of people are still doing reciprocal links. For the rest, your success rate of getting good permanent backlinks will be very low and not worth the effort. We don't do them at all anymore. Waste of time and energy

well try to search on google with keyword free directory list.. you will get alot but the top 2 websites is the best.. they update on daily basis and their approval ratio is about 60% so you must try
-
Yes well we do some directory listings to the quality directories. Also even relatively new niche directories are very good. Google likes niche directories that have a targeted range of sites. And we of course submit to all the major reliable directories. I'm just not excited anymore about endless directory submissions. Google is much more interested in Tweets and You Tube Videos now than thousands of relatively small directories.

I think submission to directories is effective.
the reason y u think submission is not effective is that free submission usually takes a long time to get approval.maybe 2-3 months.
but if u submit ur site to DMOZ,waiting will be worthy.u just need to wait...

Rumour has it that Google has devalued links from directories. Seeing they are 99.9% self-made, that seems sensible!
