Google PR just shows how quality is your site. But it will never helps you to drive more traffic. So better you target on your traffic than google PR. If you really dont have single traffic to your site, but you are having pr9 . What is the use?

More and more webmasters are starting to look at TrustRank instead of PageRank. A high PageRank doesn't guarantee high rankings, but a high TrustRank has a major impact on the rankings. If Google trust your site, and sees it as an authority site, you can rank for almost any keyword.

PR is not important so far. My site has PR 0 but its all keywords with good SERP and 500 visitors come daily at my site so its good for me.

I didnt read everyone's replies. But Bill your completely wrong I'm sorry. PR has NOTHING to do with ranking high organically. You could have a PR of 0 and be in the top 10 for the keyword you're ranking for...

PageRank is Google’s measure of importance assigned to a web page on a scale of 0 to 10.

I love the PR discussions, because there's so much controversy about it. Here is my 2 cents.....

PR kinda matters (sometimes).. Let me elaborate.

I have had pages with zero PR, that were less than 1 month old rank in the top 10 and top 5 on Google. Those pages would outrank higher PR pages. The reason as Roban said is that content is KING.

I had a good keyword density, and I used a ton of clever on-site SEO techniques to rank those pages for the 2 keywords I wanted. (And a whole lot more that I needed that I did not rank for)

Here's the way it's speculated that google works. When you type in a query in the search bar, google picks out of it's trillion of indexed words, and billion pages, those pages that contain your string of words.

It then selects 100 pages to show you in the SERP (1000 results). It's said that it's those 1000 results that are determined by the PR.

So PR becomes more and more important for single popular words like "mortgage" or "finance" or "house" but less so for "yellow guitar strings", because the term is not so common.

At the end, to rank high, you need unique content (a must, though I've seen exceptions), good on-site SEO, and popularity (inbound links)

Pakiboyg I wouldn't go as far as "the entire" but the ads part is very true. I got into seo via affiliate marketing and I know for a fact that PR does help get a better deal on ads. As in your PPC ads will appear higher for less money if you have a good PR or if you have a good CTR. (Maybe the click through rate is even more important than PR, I don't know yet)

"PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves 'important' weigh more heavily and help to make other pages 'important.'

Where that really matters, is that said? I've heard it many times from many individuals but so far, no one can substatiate it or show where that claim originates or that it is in any way factual. Some of my own experiments and experience strongly indicate that it is false. For instance, a PR 2 site rating at #1 in all the Big Three and several other SEs while other sites with PR all the way to PR 8 don't get in the top ten for the exact same keywords.
