Article submission

I have tried automatic article submissions and they don't seem to work for me as it rules change on the major article directories. So a majority of the software sold don't seem to work.

No it doesn't hurt your ranking or your website.. but try to avoid such software as it is sometimes not work properly..

I'm guessing you want to submit to article directories for the backlinks to boost your sites's ranking.... Well here's the catch, not all article directories offer you do-follow links (those that crawlers index). Those that do have the do-follow links, and a high PR scrutinize the content that's submitted. They want their articles to offer their readers value, so their guidelines are strict. If your content is not unique, your articles will be denied.

My suggestion is to submit to these directories manually and first (before you have the content elsewhere)

They rank well and fast for the keywords, and will send not only the traffic but also the bots to your site, as they are Do Follow links.

Then you can spin your articles with care; to provide enough value to the readers, and do an auto submitter. BUT Google can sandbox you/penalize you if your growth seems artificial. Better take is slow and steady, rather than get stuck in the sandbox for 6 months over 100 crappy links.

Old Sarge, what's your take on no-follows? I was conversing with a person adamant that no-follow links are in fact indexed, but the catch is that they don't "pass the juice". What's your experience been like? Do they get indexed? Are they followed but carry no PR value?

From my experience, they're treated exactly as their name says ... no follow. I think the SEs ignore them altogether.

There IS one exception I suppose. Google (supposedly) pays little attention to (certain?) meta tags these days, so I guess that means they pay less attention to the "no follow" than they used to. Maybe your friend is on to something ...

i think it is more time consuming job. in one article writing time one can submit back links to many sites.

People want to submit to hundreds of article directories to get hundreds of backlinks. It gets very time-consuming.

My proposal is to physically offer your best articles to the directories. also the articles you submit be supposed to be unique and not previously on your blog or website as you can potentially obtain penalized for having duplicate content.

Google try to index only one copy of duplicate content. The other copies do not get indexed. Google insists this is not a penalty. (Though it may feel like it, if your copy is one not indexed!)

You can do much more, especially when some do-follow directories allow a low word-count. And it's 2 links as a general rule in the resource box.
