New Site - UK Internet Shop, please comment
Hi all, Just started up an Internet Shopping Portal for the UK and would appreciate some feedback.
I have loads of content and update regularly, I just need a motive to get people to come to me rather than go through google one shop at a time.
We are a portal where we are attempting to get all shops under one roof.
Anyway, have a look, comment and advise improvements, Thanks for your time.
Oh, and if you would, use the links when buying anything

Review of UkInternetshop
Hi UKinternetshop
I took this review, as i'm originally from the UK , now living in Melbourne, Australia. Here are some comments which may help. I appreciate your site is a portal and the selling probably comes from finders fee adverts (partners), so the site heavily relies on click through traffic by excellent SEO.
My Observations
From a information design and usability approach:
- Your site is well structured
- Navigation is intuitive
- The graphics are well placed and clear
- I found the opening paragraph a little annoying with the UKinternetshop
- Good site map placing with search
- Sit map easily read
- I found two menus unwieldy and covered above, although the menu has down arrows
- The 'about us' page needs work, as it's a little flimsy on content
- Current most popular shop, how current?
- Content- good use of persnal pronouns
- Couldn't find any comprehensive legal or privacy information for subscribers
My Recommendations
- Rethink the opening paragraph, also use bullet points to highlight the options for using the site. You might want to include an FAQ and put a link into the first paragraph.
- Consider changing UKinternetshop, perhaps abrieviate with paragraph colour. I understand the branding approach, I think at the expense of your opening paragraph? Also confusing with link styles.
- If your stats for popular sites in realtime fine for current, otherwise use recent, monthly, weekly.
- Redesign the about us page - If you use Kipling six honest serving men ( ie. Who, What, How, When, Why, Where) try keeping the theme, by incorporating the words into subheadings. For example: Who we are, What makes us different, Where are we based, How we can help, When speed is important to you....etc. This give better readibility with a upbeatseeling approach.
Finally
I hope you find something useful from my comments. I wish Australia had a similar site, let me know if you are expanding.
Good luck with your project.

The use of a proper CAPTURE can eliminate most automated spam.
It forces posters to view an image, and then type in a specific response. This can range from identifying an image, to identifying obfuscated characters in the images. The theory is that spam bots have trouble with identifying characters of this nature due to the way that computers interpret images.

I like your site in general.
I would recommend you to try to optimize performance of your site:
- validate the markup of your site (using w3c.org validators)
- move all css/javascript in the separate files
- re-scale images so it will match its actual dimensions on the site, for instance:http://www.ukinternetshop.com/images/arrow.png

Good looking site. I like its color, text font and layout. 1 thing that I would like to comment on is the space between the logo and the text next to it. Bring it next to the text and it will look good. Rest is fine.
Best of luck.

It's a little bit narrow at my resolution (1280), but otherwise a very nice looking site.

Good effort, but there is room for improvement.
There can be more information for subscribers though.
