I believe Old Navy uses facebook and twitter. They use both social netowrks to promote sales, coupons, and deals. Real effective if the network user has it setup to their mobile device.

There are many companies, as mention above, who uses Face-book & Twitter like social forums to get an access to market. But I personally don't agree with this strategy due to its less effectiveness & "not suitable" because social media forums should be clear & pure from commercial purposes.

I will echo robicarlo90 with the fact that many, many companies are using Facebook to promote their companies. What could be better than having customers "like" your business Facebook page and having your business FB posts show up on their personal FB accounts? - All for free.

Examples:

Announce coupon codes and special deals.
Payless ShoeSource posts their BOGO (Buy One Get One 1/2 off) promos on their business FB page, http://www.facebook.com/payless. When announced, each one of over 60,000 fans receives the message on their personal FB accounts. This drives traffic to their stores.

Advertisement paid off
A real estate agent uses Facebook to promote the houses she has listed. Real example: her largest sale of 2010 came from a Facebook connection.
