Question Selling downloadable software via the Internet

    Hello all,

The company I work for wants to sells some software products via our site. Can anyone suggest me some excellent implementations?

I did take a look around of course but found too many 'complete solutions' where 'no knowledge of the itnernet is necessary'. What we would like is a solution we can install on our linux hosting account. So we will have control over it.
    Preferably using PHP and MySQL.

    I found:
    - osCommerce (www.osCommerce.com), which doesn't seem to support selling downloadable products.
    - cpCommerce (www.cpCommerce.org), which is not mature enough yet.
    - X-Cart (www.x-cart.com), seems ok...

    Thanks in advance! Robert-Reinder

    Question

What type of software does your company want to sell?
    Software developed in-house?
    Commercial packaged software?
    Software components?
    ETC.?

    Cool Kind of software

Hello Tony, thanks for the reply.

We're talking about a car licence plate recognizer from digital images.

We have 2 kinds of *downloadable* software we want to sell:
-First an SDK (dll/lib) which others can use for in-house development of an applications using licence plate recognition.
-Second we have a downloadable recognizer for PDA's.

Prices will can vary from 200 to 500 EUR.

Does this answer your questions regarding my question?

I'm looking forward to your reply! Robert-Reinder

My personal opinion is that you should outsource the selling of your software. It will save you many headaches and there are sites which speacialize in this. Look at:

    one way

    Robert,

I am a big osCommerce fan. I think you can integrate the software by using the PayPal IPN module.

I talked to a guy who is selling a high-end education software using http://www.digitalriver.com/corporate/index.shtml
