Question About the Shopping Cart and Credit Processing

hi. i am very new at this field.

im trying to build a site with shopping cart and the credit card processing for the payment method.

what is the best methods for doing this?

what are the procedures in

1. manually programming the credit card processing ?

2. using the existing service ?

for 1. i only know few languages PHP, flex, actionscript, mysql, javascript
and im aware that its not enough to program it. i know it involves SSL, and bankin accounts but what do you need to do exactly?

for 2. which i might gonna do that, whats the recommended service i should use? whats the cons and pros using this method? and how do you do it?

I would recommend you not manually process the payments for security reason. If you get a merchant account from a merchant processor, they have payment gateway software and ecommerce software that they will recommend that are competatible with your accoount. If you already have the website up and already have a ecommerce software that you are using, you can also integrate the payment gateway API into the shopping cart which requires a bit of programming language. Most of them are platform indepedent so it dones not matter what language your shopping cart is using.
