    error code 404

So far this month I have had over 600 error code 404 for my site. Primarily from the two url's and referers listed below. I am at a complete loss as to where the url's came from or why they are on my site or what it means.

    Please help.

    URL 404 Error Hits
    /images/spacer.gif 301 errors
    /catalog/manufacturer.asp 281 errors

This might be a permissions error. Permissions on a directory may be set too low as in 644 when they should be 755 and some servers will insist on 777 although you'd want to be careful. You can most likely set your images directory and sub-directories to 777 without any adverse effects.

    Error Code 404

    Hi,

Error 404 means "file not found." Either other web sites are linking to pages on your site that aren't there, or there are files referenced in your own web pages (such as "spacer.gif") that aren't actually on your server. If you upload the files or rename them as appropriate, it should start giving back response code 200 (which means "OK") instead of 404.
