Social networking for site promotion

Do you know face book and use it to promote your service or site?
What I am wondering is how to find and add your friends there.

This type of effort will take a long time and is never really complete/finished. It is a 'social network' and you have to work to 'make friends'. Try to find your customers and/or your demographic for best results.

I'm always surprised how many persons just sending you a friend request without even bothering to visit my blog to learn about me.
I'm not much a user in facebook, but places like blogcatalog, mybloglog, etc.
LinkedIn seems to be more decent place and if you are active in answers, it may result business contacts.

too much of a pain in the rear end to market on facebook in my opinion. Plus I don't like the possible negative connotations that may come with it. There are far too many other avenues to try.
