Adwords Account Hacked!

Make sure to check your Google Adwords campaigns regularly. I checked mine today and found out that someone had hacked into mine and piggy backed their own to it. With a $15.00 maximum bid they had racked up over $64 in charges in less than a week. I got it deleted but now I have to fight with Google over the charges. Also changed my password.

Hopefully they can at least review the IP logs to see you are telling the truth on this. I don't use them but I know AdSense shows when you last logged in - did that say anything on there?

Or can you see what URL they were pointing to and investigate that way?

The person who did this used my login (e-mail and password). I got someone on their Live Chat and let them know that I did not add this. I imagine, since it redirected to a different website than mine, they should be able to track the person down.

Several months ago we had over $6,000 in fraudulent charges show up on one of our business credit cards. It was for an AdWords campaign. We never ... EVER ... had an AdWords campaign.

We notified the bank that issued the card and they immediately ran a charge back and launched an investigation.

IMO, it had to be one of our suppliers or one of their employees, OR someone at Google. The bank will not give us any furhter info and says they are settling the matter "privately." I'm betting on someone at Google and also betting your case is much the same.

The amount was negligable, at least to me since it was my companies account. If it had been my private business it would have been worse since we are still in start-up mode and working on a real shoestring. I am going to report this to the FBI's internet crime division though.
