Pros and cons of Miva Merchant 5.0

Hello All - I am a total beginner and trying to figure out which shopping cart platform I should use for my new store.

I came across a great article about Miva Merchant.

Does anyone else have any experience with it?

I have worked with Miva Merchant in the past. One nice thing about it is that it's database uses MySQL so you can create your own programs that interact with the database. One downside to Miva is that its not very easy to use Miva's server side script.

Most things you would want to do w/ your store can be purchased in fairly inexpensive modules. There is even a module so that you can write server side script in different language other than Miva Script.

If writing your own programs for your store is not a big concern for you, I would definitely recommend Miva. You can build a solid custom store fairly easily and quickly.

If you want recommendations for some Miva Merchant Hosts let me know via PM.

I tried Miva Merchant, as well. I sent in my application for PayQuake, and was promised they'd get back to me in 48 hours. It took two weeks, and then they declined us (after I spent two weeks inputting data) because we sell electronics. They say their bank prohibits it. Right. We're now looking at shopsite.

Sounds like a rough shopping cart software.

We have some members who have liked the Miva platform and dont have any major issues. Our dropship supplier updates and product loading features have been integrated with Miva for the last few years....but...IMHO...if you want control over your cart you would only want to use a cart where you can make changes as you need and use anyone to customize the site. However, many changes on Miva have to be done by Miva programmers for the fee they pick for your project.

Actually, Miva finally straightened out our snafu; the person who told me that I could only use Payquake was badly misinformed (and gave me a terrible three day weekend, because they weren't available). I'm glad, I've spent a *lot* of time inputting data with Miva, and the idea of moving does not thrill me.
