Thank you both for bringing up the topic. I was thinking the same and started a blog recently with blogspot. Any answer will be helpful
    Thank you.

Relevant site content is probably, in my opinion, the single most important thing you can do. Not only do the spiders love it but so do your customers.

Whats the difference between blog on website? For me blog is a website or are you talking about flash designed static website with no SEO and then you want to have website where you constantly publish new articles with the link to your static website?
For better navigation and integrity I would recommend to have SEO optimised static pages in your blog redirecting your domain name to one of those pages and blog entries for news and articles.

Write your blog not having more traffic, but your visitors in mind. In other words: Provide interesting information related to your business that is useful for your visitors and prospective customers.

I have read many blogs that are looking like keyword lists written for search engine spiders or just distributing the company's press releases. Maybe this brings you some additional traffic, but surely not more customers.

All in all I'm not sure if having an own weblog really is useful for most businesses. For me it isn't currently a topic, there are too many other things that needs attention first.

For some businesses it's a very good way to create a relationship with your customers. I know several store owners who have built their businesses around providing blog and forum communities. Since most of my experience comes from clients that have subscription or ongoing services this is a great way to keep their customers coming back for more. It also makes them more 'approachable'. Another added benefit is that if you create an online community you are opening your business up for further growth since you can have some of your best clients also become your vendors.

Blogs had some sort of purpose when they first started, but now they're just adsense infiltrated dribble that pollute the serps. But still the search engines favor them for some reason ... perhaps because it's their advertising the permeates these blog pages! A blog for the sake of a blog is not going to accomplish anything. If you don't have a purpose or strategy with your blog, it's not going to do much for your business.

    Content is King.

If you're going to have a business related blog, update it regularly with articles related to your industry. Like some one else already said, the spyders love it, the more often you update your blog, the more often it'll be spydered, which should mean higher search engine ranking and more traffic.
