Question How to get traffic to my site

First of all I would like to say hello to everyone in this group. My name is Desi and I just rencently last year started doing business out of my home part-time. I am a broker and I work with this company called AmeriplanUSA, and we offer Dentalcare and Medical Care. When I started this business of course I told every family member I could and then I started telling my friends. Now family and friends are easy to get them enrolled, because they know you.

But now for 2006 I want to be able to reach others and I have been thinking about how do I go about drawing other people from online to my website. I did an engine seeker with Google and Yahoo. and several others. But I am not sure if this is working, if you could advice me as to what is my best options on website traffic I would appreciate it greatly. I know that I can do adversting, banners, forums, newsletters, brochures and things like that and I have done these. But I want to do web now and I know there are alot of companies out there who claim they can get you the traffic you need and I have checked into a few of them some are pretty costly to. If this group can help me as to who or whom should I get in contact with.

Thank you for taking the time to listen and to offer your suggestions.

Take care and have a wonderful day.

Yup, I actually just met with someone today and had a looooong discussion on this issue...

If you want to increase traffic, it's "all the above" that is the answer...

Marketing is a full circle event and not just one thing will do all...you need to use several marketing strategies both online and offline.

Online you can submit to directories, search engines, and write articles and get backlinks from "related" websites. The more you do, the more chances traffic will fall to your site...the catch - have adequate content on your website to keep people there - IE the articles and other content.

Also - sufficient content on your website helps the "organic search engines" rank and list your site...not enough text content is a big reason why sites don't get ranked.

    Hope this helps!

Regarding COMPANIES CLAIMING THAT THEY CAN DO SEO for you, please BEWARE. Be vigilant about them. Most of the time, companies like these really do not know what you're into. And once your contract with them is done, they will just leave you with nothing. Sometimes, it is best to do SEO on your own.

How about if you check this thread here -- http://forums.smallbusinesscomputing...2250#post12250

    Traffic from Google

I went to your link, and it appears that a user needs a code to enter the site. If so, how would getting traffic from Google help if the customers from Google would not have a code? Maybe I'm missing something.

SEO is NOT an exact science but there are several things that can be done to improve your site's visibility on the Web. Getting visitors to your site is not difficult but getting targeted visitors to your site ups the ante quite a bit.

If you sell green widgets, what do you care if you have 1000 people a week coming to your site looking for purple widgets? You want the ones looking for green widgets or you're going to start carrying purple widgets because you're a savvy shop owner.

The question you should be asking is: How do I know if what I have to offer is what people on the Internet are looking for and if it is, then what can I do to attract THOSE people? That is what SEO is all about.

Theres a few thigns you can do.
    1. paid advertising (type ppc into google)
    2. SEO
    3. press releases

I've found the most successful to be press releases personally, i've got over 100 visits to a forum in about 4 days (it was a forum for joomla based small businesses, not big news). 100 hits isn't heaps but it wasn't major news, . If you have some juciy news the major news networks pick it up and you'll have thousands of hits within hours. i've heard seos say they got 15 sales within 2 hours of releasing a press release.

SEO and press releases are easy to handle but PPC is quite scary.

Thanks for this link. My boss told me that he was one time referred to a webmaster staffing company. When he researched about this company, everybody was all praises to that company. But he was surprised when he got his webmaster because other than the virtual employee was inexperienced the person was also very unprofessional.

Andrew Goodman's book, "Winning Results with Adwords" is a bit dated but is a very good primer on how to run a smart PPC campaign.

Beginning of summer, I read book, used its advice and got a nice boost in my click through rates and a little boost in my conversions.

BUT for my businesses, I still can't get PPC to work well. My products are too inexpensive to compete against the expensive services that also use the same keywords, etc.

I think we're having the same problem. That's why every time my work plan end up with PPC as the next step, I would do away with it for a while and work on the next procedure.

    Yeah, I know the feeling....

Because I can track (using Google's conversion tracking) exactly how effective my Adword ads are, I know whether or not I'm making money. Yet frequently I find that People who have made a business of selling PPC consulting don't accept the PPC model doesn't necessarily work...
