    Photo/document download site

I am new to the forums and to E-commerce, I know how to build WebPages and build servers for a living. Here is what I want to do:

Setup a website where customers can come in look at say a sample of a photograph that I have take and then purchases it and be forwarded onto a download site that would let them download the real image. How would I go about doing that. Keep in mind that I will probably be using Dreamweaver or some open source cart and Paypal. Thanks in advance for any input.

You might consider Payloadz - they support downloading and paypal. And it might be easier for you

I notice that Payloadz is a service, I own my own server and would rather not use a service, do you know if there is any open source software that will enable me to set it up myself? Thanks Corey

Almost all carts support some type of downloadable option. There is a download controller for osCommerce. Modular merchant has a digital delivery download.

I guess it would depend on what language you are going to want to use. If you are on Windows, ASP or .NET would probably be better. On *NIX, PHP would usually be better

As Corey has already said there are some services out there that specialize in digital delivery. Since you've stated that you own your own server and would prefer not to use a service, you might want to try looking on hotscripts.com. You can search on the criteria that matches your needs and see reviews and details of any service.

I will also say that Modular Merchant allows you to keep your files on your server and will keep the url secure. I think that Payloadz only allows you to put your files on servers they own to keep your digital content secure.

    Hi,

    Promotion is described here: ecommerce.snowcron.com
    It definitely works for me.

A service to automate sending PayPal post-order "thank you, here is your reg.code" letters, at snowcron.com/digital_sell.htm

It can be used to sell photos through PayPal, actually, this example is used in an online tutorial.

    Good luck,
    Steve
