Cannot ping XP pro pc from SBS server
Hello
I have a question on one
of my systems setup with SbS 2003 r2. I am unable to ping a dhcp client
pc from the server ( the ip address or DNS name ). The XP pro pc seems
to be working fine though. Can map drives, attach to lan printers. Just
am unable to see it from the server which might cause issues later on.
I am able to ping the server from the pc ( static ip and dns name ) and
ping the printers static ip and dns name from this pc. I am able to
ping the printers static ip and dns name from this server. The dns name
for the pc shows up in the forward look-up table of dns. It's probably
a simple setting I am missing?. Thought you might have a quick answer or point me in the right direction?
I had changed the Xp pro pc to static ip and am still unable to ping the
pc from the server. I have changed all settings on the pc nic and server
nic one at a time and still was unable to ping this pc from the server.
Everything on the network is functioning great. From the server I can
ping the printers. I can ping the server and printers from the pc. This
tells me the NIC's are setup properly.
I checked DHCP on the server. The scope looks good. I have dynamic
update enabled for DNS and to automatically update DNS when pc connects.
I checked DNS on the server. The DNS name of the pc shows up in the
forward / reverse look-up zones.
I am able to map drives on the pc and can attach to the LAN printers on
the server.
Pc and server have been rebooted each time a change has been made.
Could it be something with Group policy or the windows firewall?
Possibly maybe an echo request that's not being allowed?
The XP pro pc was once a XP home pc that was upgraded to XP pro.
Thanks,
Vince
