You are a great fan of eBay, aren't ;-)
Personally, I find services like eBay, Froogle and Amazon great to research prices, but you must read their terms twice. Many dubious dealers out there.
I give you a real-world example: German Amazon sells 1 GB SD cards from various dealers for about 5,99 Euro. Amazingly cheap. However these dealers have s&h costs per single item of 3,99 Euro (also they are surely delivered in an envelope that costs postage of less than 1 Euro). Other dealers may charge 9 Euro per card, but lower s&h - however they not appear in the top listings.
As long as you are careful enough before making a buying decision, such online marketplaces are beneficial tools.

I have only bought 2 items on ebay, a neon sign, one that i couldnt find anywhere else, and a play gym for my kids, it was local.
buyer beware. i didnt have any problems with my purchases but i have heard of alot of people who have, i have also heard of alot who have had a good experience there, just be careful, buying from a store you have more recouse if something goes wrong, on ebay its harder.

I have been lost thousand of dollar in ebay.
Do you mind letting us know what happened (maybe sharing your experiences can prevent others to do the same mistakes) ?
-
sure !!
3 years ago, i was selling a nokia cell phone which sold $500 dollars in ebay.
However, the buyer paid it with a unconfirmed address (which means no seller protection for me), I was worried and email the buyer if he is the correct authorized buyer !
Surprisely, he emailed me back so I was confidence and sent the $500 bucks phone to him.
After Several day, the paypal charged back the $500 due to (not confirmed address) I called paypal to tell them what happened, they said it is the policy and they cant do anything about it ans suggest me to call Police.....
Eventually, I just gave up, and learn a painful lesson. This is one of the story that teach me DO NOT NEVER SHIP TO UNCONFIRMED ADDRESS PAYER with high value item !
Thanks
ERIC

Bad experience you made... but good advise :-)
Have you called the police and brought this to their attention ?
-
NO, I did not call police. it will cause too much trouble and times. And this is a huge bug for scam as the buyer can just make their paypal address uncomfirmed to make some fraud with the transation.
And paypal's cutomer service is really really bad, when you on the phone with them, they just follow whatever in their website page. That means their phone service is useless.

This is why I will not use Paypal on any of my sites.

eBay is a great way to offload slow moving stock and to raise awareness of your real eCommerce shop, but they're missing the point with the recent changes to their feedback system and increased fees.
They are now forcing Australian users to only offer Paypal with their auctions, and if you think its not heading your way, as of last month they started forcing UK users to include Paypal as a payment option with every auction.
They're testing the concept elsewhere but mark my words (puts on long grey beard and pointy hat) it is only a matter of time before eBay forces US users to only offer Paypal to their customers.
Thankfully the Australian government is looking into this under the restriction of trade laws, lets hope they stop this policy in its tracks.

In Germany eBay plans (according their newsletter from a few weeks ago) to "punish" sellers having many negative ratings in the way that they need to accept PayPal...
So I guess that it will be just a matter of time until all sellers must allow PayPal as an option. If this should be the case, I guess that many people will say "goodbye" to eBay.

eBay also owns StubHub. StubHub recently sold me two invalid tickets. It could happen to you. Read more: http://stubhubsoldmeinvalidtickets.blogspot.com/
