eCommerce Site and SEO
While doing a eCommerce website SEO, what strategies you usually opt other basic SEO i.e directory submission, forum posting, blog commenting etc.?

SEO is same for all the websites, it doesn't differ as per the website type. Directory submission, forum posting, blog commenting are the traditional ways of link building. The best ways to acquire links is from web 2.0 sites and guest blogging. It would help you to build quality backlinks.

Most e-commerce retailers have lots of very similar product pages. Though it gives lots of information about their products through different pages, search engines do not feel the same way. Add canonical tag for such pages will give search engine a direction. Another challenge for e-commerce sites is duplicate content.

Hi IanL, if you are running an e commerce website and not getting the traffic on the website even after using link building techniques, then you can also use image optimization, Content (Blog and Article) syndication and press release techniques. I am sure that these ones will help a lot.

As a small online retailer of your life can be quite difficult, especially when just starting out. SEO is a very difficult game for everyone, but if you're in the area has been protected from the biggest retailers (like many Amazons world) can be difficult to get off the ground.
