Have you ever tried reaching out to the Hispanic Community?

Spanish is the most widely spoken of the Romance languages, both in terms of the number of speakers and the number of countries in which it is the dominant language. With approximately 400 million native speakers worldwide, Spanish is currently the second most widely spoken language overall. According to 2010 U.S Census, the Hispanic population grew by 43 percent, rising from 35.3 million in 2000 to 50.5 million in 2010, making people of Hispanic origin the nation´s largest ethnic or race minority.

Please share your techniques to communicate with Latinos!

My philosophy is, "When in Rome, do as the Romans".

In the US, Canada or UK, I speak English. When in Thailand I speak Thai. When in Mexico I speak what Spanish I know. If I'm in a country where I don't know the language, I use an interpretor or do my best to learn enough to get by.

Every country/region has it's language. It's not realistic for one to expect the inhabitants thereof to speak anything else just to accomodate one's own lack of language skill.

It's true that the Latino population is a force to be reckoned with and it is growing. I would dare say that within a very short time they will overtake Caucasions in this country, a good case for birth control. While a lot of Latinos that I have a relationship with have learned English as their main language and have integrated beautifully into our society there are those that are here only to work and send back money to their families in South America. They are largely illegal and are a drain on our resources and patience and I would communicate with them in their native language only to escort them out of the country and block the thousands who come here annually to take as much as they can, giving back nothing.

Do I care to learn Spanish so that I can more effectively coomunicate? With the legals who show respect for and who contribule to our society my answer is yes. To the others I would learn one word...salir!

Desde que nuestra compañÃ*a ha empezado a hacer más negocios internacionales, tenemos a alguien en el personal que habla español con fluidez. No me embargo. Puedo utilizar Google Translate cuando tengo que transmitir un mensaje en otro idioma.

While Google Translate can help you achieve a basic understanding of a text, we cannot use Machine Translations if we need to produce texts requiring both linguistic and cultural understanding. A high quality translation of your documents, website, etc. will prove to be invaluable in terms of projecting an image of professionalism and integrity for your business or organization.

It has been my experience if somebody is in the U.S. and doesn't know English, they'll probably not be doing online shopping - I have a few eCommerce sites.
As I don't speak Spanish I've never tried to target that part of the population, it would be too much of a hassle to hire an interpreter every time I need to communicate with someone who only speaks Spanish.
