I have been using a terrific product for remote access to my office called GoToMyPC.
It was a breeze to set up and configure, and is a very secure product (perhaps even more so than PC Anywhere). It simply works as advertised, and it keeps the IT department happy, since it all works off the http port 80 - no fiddling with internal firewalls required. Besides that, it's cheaper than PCA also.

I use this incredible remote tool called "LogmeIn" it is web based, no need to install any specific software on client's machine. (http://www.LogmeIn.com)
Just install LogmeIn on your server and Invite Guest, the guest computer can access via browser using ActiveX, Java applet or Html and you are connected remotely without any delay and offers all other features such as file manager etc, priced around 12$ per mth u can get it for 8$ too with promo code offers ...
Try the eval you might like it, this is best suited for small business ...
I used to prefer Darwin's Evolution. Now I am investigating Interprise Suite. The management of the company seems quite strong.

Coming to the Randy's original question, I noticed that small businesses are lukewarm on the topic, but medium sized businesses request more and more remote activity.
Probably the most common solutions rely on the combination VPN+terminal service because not all the small/medium firms have pure web applications on line. SaaS probably will disrupt this picture in the near future.

I'm definitely going to agree on this count; I run a small tech support firm and logmein Rescue has become absolutely integral to the way my business is run. On top of that I use Pro at home and in the office to transfer files or just poke around my computer in case I need to. The web-based interface is what sells it for most of our customers. The new company http://www.gotoservers.com makes SSL VPN never easy before. It offers many kinds tool allows clientless access your computer, applications and resources. Free trial and cost is amazing low.
We've started using ProjectStory's WebFiles (www.pswebfiles.com/splash/ ) and found it works best for our remote access needs. Maybe it's just the nature of our business, but we have to access and send files to a number of remote locations in the course of business. With WebFiles, we can control who has access to which files, and we can make notes regarding project status next to each file. It's a great product for us.

We use SameTime BUT I don't recommend it unless you're already a Lotus house (not many of these left ...)
The best remote access software for me is PC File Transfer. First of all, it's easy to use, to navigate and manage files and folders on remote computer as well as to run programs. You can safely transfer files from one computer to another (or from several on a network), synchronize files. A nice feature is account connection that works behind routers and firewalls, so you don't have to worry that your transfer could be interrupted and blocked.
Its strength is in flexibility actually.
If you have accessibility to it you should probably take it up.

I've used it for years to support customers and NEVER had a security issue. Bare in mind that you can close the client whenever you want and ONLY launch it when they require access. It also requires passwords to use. You can also use it to your advantage. Ask them to add you as a "secondary" user so that you can access the PC from your own home whenever you need.
i am surprised no one is discussing remote web workplace which is built into Microsoft Small Business Server. it is a great way to remote in and it is included in SBS. or are we talking about businesses too small for a central server?
I am a freelancer and had quite often worked through Remote Access systems using LogMeIn. I use to work on my clients PC which was in London, UK and I was working on it from where I live Fort Lauderdale, FL. It was a great experience.

I am hearing a lot about Remote Access systems nowadays. I have used Remote Assistance tool integrated with Windows XP. Is it also a Remote Access system?
I've used TeamViewer for quite awhile and I have to say it's never let me down. You send an email to your client that has a link for a small activex control they download to their machine and off you go. Remote desktop control. And...it's free.Quote:
