We did it! We went live this weekend (with the white template). Very exciting. I can't stop checking Statcounter to see how many page hits we're getting. How long before Google starts indexing?

That's what I figured. I am in the process of putting it into various directories and Alexa. It's a start.

According to the internal stats on Volusion - the googlebot has already visited me 19 times.

Hopefully you have put up an XML sitemap and submitted it to Google and Yahoo and added the correct line to your robots.txt

I must ask, though. How much of that layout is a template, and how much is your creation?

The header/Logo (such as it is) is mine. I did use a basic template that Volusion supplies but the color choices and category/product creation and organization are mine.

What sort of control over the organization do you have?

It depends in what area. The nav menu, footer and header are pretty set as to where they are at and the size they are, unless I know .asp (which I don't). What order the categories, products or anything else shows up in is my call.

Volusion customers have full html access. Essentially, you can wipe out this template and start from scratch, but it does affect what you can change dynamically from the admin area and what you would have to hard code. There are tons of examples of this in our client gallery on our site:

I was just wondering what your page rank is and you're basic google information... how's your traffic?

We only went live on Labor Day, so we do not have any page ranking yet. The spiders are visiting it though and we are working on getting links and submitting to directories. Traffic fluctuates. The last week or so has been real slow.

Thanks for the information JEccles. It's helpful have some sort of benchmark of what to expect when I start everything up.
