PayPal Alternative / Credit Card Processor??

Hello,

I was using paypal for sometime but I am not satisfied with the fact my clients have to leave my site to complete they're order. I'm finding many of them get to the Paypal site and don't know what it is and think it is a mistake and they have been forwarded there sometime. Further I think they overcharge for transferring money and some other support issues I've had... anyways I'm looking for something a little more upscale. I want to be able to take the credit card payments right on my site without leaving. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? What are my alternatives? Should I got to my local bank and setup a merchant account? I'm not sure what to do. Any advice would help.

It depends on how much you are processing. I use Authorize.Net and am very happy with them. Pay Pal Pro might be an alternative for you as it processes without leaving your site.

It depends on what your volume is and your location.

First keep in mind that Authorize.net is not a merchant account provider but an electronic payment gateway - you will still need a merchant account to help you accept credit cards. (How Does a Credit Card Transaction Get Processed? might help some.

Also Paypal has some options as well to keep the consumer on your website if you are in one of the supported countries.

What are you using for your e-commerce? Many of the programs are set up to use payment gateways from many different company - you just have to decide which merchant account/gateway combination is best.

Note: discount rates, the set up fees and other terms can vary widely. Shop around.

As a consumer, I would be concerned with using lesser known payment systems.

I like to offer multiple forms of payment gateways two of which are Card Service Sales and ofcourse PayPal. Card Service Sales is driven by FirstData and tends to have a more "professional" look than the paypal gateway.

If you're interested I also found a Forbes Article To help with saving money on credit processing fees. Who wouldn't want that ? ;).

So in lieu of suggesting paypal (wow what a blooper), I would suggest someone big named, and serious like Verisign

Actually Paypal bought the Payflow gateway from Verisign sometime last year. So you could use the Payflow gateway along with a merchant account.

And Cardservice Sales is not a gateway - the LinkPoint gateway (which is owned by First Data) is the gateway)

I'm in Canada, but we also have business in the US. Were selling a Medical Discount Package (Card), and we're also selling Travel Vouchers, but I also have a low risk ecommerce site selling chocolates

Well you would definitely want two - one for your chocolates and then one for the other. Canada is a bit different in the way it processes. Paymentech is a larger ISO that might help you. You will probably want a merchant account for each product you are selling since they vary greatly.

Even if you are in the United States, that does help, but do you have a social security number? That would help as well.

I would like to have some insight as to what dropshopper woould be best to ship around the globe. I have some customers that have family members that are in the military overseas and would like to have some items sent to them. any suggestions

I do not claim to know everything about payment processing. Having said that, here are my thoughts on PayPal and credit card processors.

My merchant PayPal account was hacked into about a week ago today. This was not done through my site, but through PayPal's site - so says PayPal. I have since discontinued using PayPal as a payment option on my website. I also would like to add that PayPal is one of the most expensive payment processors around and I have the Pro account. For me anyway, the dollars did not add up for PayPal when compared to the cost of credit card processing. Besides, on my site at least, there were very few PayPal payments when compared to the credit card payments.

Many credit card processors will help you establish merchant accounts along with their payment gateway. I use Authorize.net and they did most of the work for me. And no, the customer never leaves the site. Of course it would be wise to establish a business checking/savings account at a local bank if you can. Remember, depending on how many dollars you process during a given time period, you can negotiate the cost to some degree.

Other than a specific credit card processor, I use Google Checkout and NetCash as other alternatives of payment on my website. Again, these forms of payment are set up so the customer never leaves the site. But again, most of my sales go through the credit card processor.

they have a little high fees but they don't complicate and they are flexible with withdrawals...

I would like to enrichen your discussion by adding the payment method PAY PER PHONE, a method most suitable for micropayments (lets say up to USD 50).
www.daopay.com offers this service, and since I have been a satisfied customer with them - for almost two years now I might add - I cannot but recommend them.

That is called SIM Processing, in which your site transfer to paypal, where they take the credit card payment and do the processing.

The alternative is AIM, in which the customer says on your site to make payment.

PayPal is a all in one solution, in which they are the front end processor and the payment gateway. PayPalPro NVD is AIM, and cost about $30.00 a month plus about 5% of the total revenue charged.

Authorize.net is a payment gateway, it's a virtual credit card terminal. It runs anywhere from $10 to $20 a month, depending on who you sign up with, the dealer. We change $20 a month, amd provide free tech support.

Now you need a front end processor like First Data, that's where the Merchant ID comes into play.


If your volume is high, say over $2500 a month, then going AIM will be of benefit. You'll decrease your abandoned cart rate and may double your revenue, and then it will increase your trust rate.

I am a small business owner that has around 10 employees and am currently using something called payquicker to pay all my employees. This tool is great especially if your a small business because the fees are very minimal. Payquicker allows me to send my employees a paper check or send them a payment directly to their email account even if they don't have payquicker account setup. Paypal just kept nickel an diming me and my employees when I sent payments out plus I wasn't very satisfied with their customer service as well as the fact of searching all over for a contact number to actually speak to a person. I know that paypal is the biggest one out there but I guess when you are that big it doesn't matter how you treat your customers. I am very pleased with payquicker and will continue to use this platform since they actually care about their customers and will spread the word to those who are looking for a safe and secure alternative way to pay and receive payments online other than paypal. www.payquicker.com

Paypal is awful, not only is it expensive, but they make it too easy for the customer to file a chargeback then freeze your funds. I searched and searched for an alternative and the best deal I could find was through acceptpaymentsnow.net I hope this helps

If you haven't found an answer or solution yet I would suggest to get a merchant account. I would look for one that fits the needs of your business. My business does good but I would still consider it a small business. The provider I used was noth american bancard and I haven't had any problems with them, besides calling in but that was expected.
