Question:
If you were given $100,000.00 to spend on your webstore, but it could ONLY be spent on webstore related purchases, what would you use it for? Purchases could include, but are not limited to advertising, employees to maintain the store, third party applications, purchase of competition.
I would appreciate your input!

My own servers. Then formal training in web building, web graphics and marketing.
If I am not starting from scratch and I have my current Web store, back end software, warehouse, and employees... I would put all of the $100k into an advertising campaign that would include both online and off line advertising backed by a solid PR campaign.

SEO is the big boy. That's the one that pays the biggest returns. I would do whatever was needed to maximize that. Most of us just search for what we want and buy from the 1st 1 or 2 returned sites
SEO will not bring your company much branding as an advertising and PR campaign would. Plus a PR campaign would also lend help to a Web site's search engine rankings with all of the independent articles that mention the Web site.
I suppose but I was thinking for a smaller company trying to increase sales, SEO would do more. I mean how much of a campaign can you get for a hundred grand? You certainly can't build a household word with that much. Takes millions.
No you can't, but you can get a good jump on a campaign with 100k. If the product(s) your selling are halfway decent the PR campaign should bring immediate results that should boost up profits to continue the advertising and PR campaigns. After running these campaigns for a while before you know you have spent millions.
I will outsource all the activities to the capable vendor and will start focusing on marketing of the services and will look for the companies that may be interested in partnering with my company. Is there anyone thinking like me?

What will grow the business long term?, what short term?
1. I'd hire someone to help with sourcing more unique products.
We have a hard time locating independent producers willing to put their tv shows on DVD. (If you know any independent tv show producers ready to take the plunge onto DVD, have them e-mail me.)
You have to have the product.
2. I'd spend some more money on SEO and advertising.
3. A small party for the staff - just to help morale.
4. possibly re-design the site, including some usability research.

The first season of the Odd Couple is out now.
The studios, the manufacturers, do the negotiating with the producers who hold the rights, the lawyers talk, and eventually most series get released.
But there are still some big demand products not available; the process takes time.
Which brings me back to this thread, new products are always a very important part of growing the business.
$100,000 to help with the search for new products that match
the needs of my customer base would sure be nice...
