It would also be a beneficial idea to investigate the security of the transactions for your customer's sake. It is a beneficial idea to investigate the programs. Pay Pal does not integrate with this program as well as your transactions have to be stick shift entered into Quick Books.
It's where the money goes. like an internet bank account.
as for the original question, it depends alot on your demographic but depending on the shopping cart you use, I would use both if you can. It gives the customers a few ways to checkout. You will have higher fees but may also have higher conversions.
It would also be a goodness idea to investigate the security of the deals for your customer's sake. Some merchant accounts have lower fees than PayPal.
I'm getting force to obtain a merchant account for my business. My website is not up yet. I believed it would be just fine to apply Paypal. As a consumer I have purchased online as well as applied my Visa to make a payment via Paypal.
Continue with whatever you using right now coz if you feel comfortable with paypal and also clients have not objections for this then there is no issues but if you find any difficulty and got any complain from your clients side then you must go for next alternative.
It would really be best if you have both. You would never know if you might have problem with one of them, it would definitely freeze your business. Much better if you have both so that your customer will have more options.
I vote merchant account over paypal. I use http://www.nabancard.com/index.php and have enjoyed using them more than I did paypal when I used their service.
but for some high risk industries, paypal's buyer protection policy will let you down, and i will recommend to use merchant account and exclusive gateway.

Paypal to start has no monthly cost however the cost per transaction is higher than through many merchants. I often say to start with paypal for most of our customers and then migrate to the right ecommerce merchant for you. Some have special non-profit rates if you are non profit while others' monthly rates are low enough for even startup companies.
The majority of the population is comfortable with paypal as a clearing option and most of our customers only experience a marginal change in acceptance rates after the migration. the main success of your ecommerce site we have found is less about what clearing company you use but rather how well your site is actually built and the trust you establish with the customer before even starting the clearing process.
Our software is able to do both paypal and any clearing company you choose however it is not my aim to promote our services in the forum. I am just letting you know that solutions are out there that with little to no knowledge of ecommerce, you can build a site that clears in any way you choose with little effort.
If you ship, finding a solution that integrates shipping calculation with your ecommerce clearing is also ideal. This will save you time and money as you grow in success in the future.
I hope this helps.
