I would choose Facebook and twitter.

Social media isn’t a fad or trend. It’s an enduring reality of online existence. For marketers, it’s indispensable. But when you approach social media as a marketing channel, things may get a bit confusing.
I think you can choose Facebook,linked in,twitter and google plus the popular social medias....
With 168K Twitter followers (genuine ones!) you can guess where my vote is!
Facebook limits the number of friends to too small a number for mass marketing.
Instagram is great if you sell wedding cakes, but not for telling your story.
LinkedIn is too awkward for some.
Google+ flopped as competition to Facebook.
Last months I started with Instagram. It more and more popular . :)

I use regularly for Google Plus, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook.
I will choose G+, pinterest and Facebook.

Facebook and Twitter work well for most types of businesses. I would also suggest having a Linkedin either for your business or your employees depending on the type of business you have. I personally think Pinterest and Instagram can be good for some, but not all businesses.
How are people using these social media accounts?
I favor a brief intriguing message with a link to a webpage on our website. The idea is to engage visitors there with new and compelling content, so they respond to a 'call to action'.
Does anybody have a different plan?
I think its depend on how many followers you have.
there are many social media channels are available in the market for promotion but i think Facebook and google plus is best for marketing and promotion,
there are so many social media channels for advertising but facebook ,Google+,and linkedin are best for advertising ,

Yeah I totally agree with you that there are a lot of social media website that can brings you a lot's of traffic which you are looking for..
for work i used every possible social media channel for my work promotion but personally i used instagram and facebook.

Facebook, Twitter & YouTube are top social networking sites that help to boost your website traffic.

All social networks I mentioned above are international. But you should analyze your target audience to know what social networks your website visitors use. Maybe it is something local you don’t even know about. :)
