I think forum signature still have good SEO value. Other methods like article marketing and directory submission involves duplicate contents. That is the main reason for low seo effect. But forum posting has unique contents, so it gets better seo effect.
This is an interesting thread I was curious as to the importance. However I always thought that every backlink counts. Especially if the content the link comes from is relevant to a website your trying to advertise..
A "no follow" link will do you no good with the search engines. It will not count because they will ignore it ... "no follow" it.
so ,now im more and more confused about the importance of signature,different people has differnt ideas,who can give us a professional ideas!

Yahoo counts both dofollow/nodofollow signatures but google counts only dofollow signatures link

According to my point of view SE still counting forum signature links as quality backlink. Forum signature not only give you powerful backlink but potential traffic also.
I would like to say that the Forum Signatures is very important , if you put your company's website into the signatures , then it's possible for the people to viste your website , i think it plays the role of advertising the company .
Let me close all the myths. Forum sigs are incredibly important. For example, I have received as many backlinks as my posts...I just checked SEOmoz.org and it showed me all the backlinks I have received from this forum. Thank you small business computing :-)
You're welcome but be aware at least some of those are myself and the moderators checking the content of sites linked here. We have to be sure the content isn't something disagreeable :D
I think forum signature links still count for SEO. If we forget SEO advantage still forums can bring huge referral traffic.
i don't think search engine count all signatures per one forum as 1 link simply that considers an open invitation for spamming which they avoid
It depends more on the forum than on the search engine. Many forums now "wrap" the thread/signature url inside the url for the forum ... i.e. the main domain url. By doing so, they are masking it from the SE bots ... almost as effectively as the "no follow" tag does because the SEs stop at the main domain url.Quote:

Every one know that backlinkwatch.com is used to check the backlinks, but I notice that it does not list all backlinks.
Most forums assign a "no follow" attribute to links. Putting links in forum signatures allows other users to know where to know where to find you. It's "branding" so to speak.
