for MLM I would try to partner up with someone with a mailing list.
Give them a finders fee. As for your affiliate products, if it's via clickbank check its gravity and then if it's really high, it could means that people are making money off of it. Try to contact the merchant, and ask what his/her top affiliates are doing, and if there's some good landing pages that he can give you. Then work to optimize them and make them popular by doing all the work recommended to you. And it really is a lot of work.
However it can pay off well at the end. You may not see the immediate results you envision (Affiliate marketing is very competitive and the top affiliates are spending hundreds a week to rank their site and on PPC)
