Hi everyone!
I'm a software engineer and I'm currently developing software that increases sales for small and medium online retailers. My studies show that the conversion rate for small e-retailer increases by 50-70%, depending on the size of the store.
I am hoping that some of the members of the forum would be interested in trying my product and providing feedback. The software is very easy to install and if you need some help, I would be more than happy to help you.

It's been proved that user reviews increase conversion rates. Here is one example from Kingston: http://www.1to1media.com/view.aspx?DocID=31379 but there are thousands of them.
When you start you eShop - you don't have any reviews at all. For your customers you don't look trustworthy, they leave your website, your conversion rate is really low. You can install something like BazaarVoice or PowerReviews, but it won't solve the problem of having 0 reviews - you will have to ask your customers to write them.
So I figured how to solve this problem. I've created a simple JavaScript widget. All you need to do is put it on your product pages and give me the product identifier (UPC, MPN, etc). The widget will provide average user rating (stars) and reviews. Also the widget has an ability to post new reviews - so you won't have to care about that as well. I also do spam filtering, etc.
I have about 1 million reviews in my DB and this number is growing. Of course if you sell somewhat unique products this will be less beneficial for you.

So if I hear you correctly, this won't work well for ecommerce sites that sell multiple unique products right? How can a product be given an average rating when it alone has never been reviewed? I'm confused (maybe you can clarify that.)
If a product hasn't been reviewed then putting an average rating on it based on other products is giving mis-leaading information. Again, maybe this isn't based on multiple products that differ completely, but rather on a single product type with maybe multiple 'color' variations.
Can you confirm that?

If you sell unique products that can be bought only from your website - it will not work for you. We're not giving any misleading information, average rating is calculated based on the reviews for this particular product.Quote:

How about take advantage of giving special offers by providing an incentive to buy online. Advertise an offer that's only available at your website and you give your visitors added incentive to become a customer.
That's called a loss leader. Fry's electronics is famous for loss leaders on the front page of their ads. They work, but you have to find something to sacrifice to the public, and many manufactures want to maintain a certain published price level.
I my opinion you have to make you site user friendly, work mostly in the content of your site. And try to consult for an SEO experts.
