Read everything you can get on organic seo.
... and be prepared to spend serious time implementing what you learn.
You can do article marketing by creating articles and submit then on article directories which should be related to your niche, or an opt-in to your website ;)
Hey there, I'm new here as well, but I spend a lot of time on other forum boards and websites.
There's an old success mantra "the way to get what you want is by helping others get what they want", I've found this to be true.
The best thing you can do is ad value to the conversation wherever you go. Help with an answer, try to solve a problem, or provide a good lead. Leave your link in a discreet manner and traffic will come if you have something worthwhile to add.
We've used Facebook with great success. It's a great way to connect with your customers and find out what they are thinking and if they are having any problems with your site.

Have A Nice Day...
My best traffic sources would be social networking sites, links on other blogs, and repeat visits from regular readers. One more thing is driving traffic from existing visitors is a good idea, just by adding a tell a friend button on web site -- you can try the free widget from SocialTwist, visitors can automatically email their friends about your website whenever they find something they'd like to share.
Hi Dave!
So I just posted this reply in another thread on here, but it would be very beneficial to you since it's a very easy traffic plan to implement and has massive potential for traffic generation.
Here's the 'traffic plan' I'd use if you want to jump-start some major traffic to your site, or attract customers:
1. Get a blog for your store if you don't have one (as well as an account on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. More if possible, but those are the main ones)
2. write 1-2 very high-quality articles on a daily basis (usually no more than 2)
3. Submit that article to asa many directories as possible
4. Turn your article into a PDF (you can use a free software called "Cute PDF"... just Google it, should be the first that comes up)
5. submit the converted article to all 'document sharing' sites (like scribd.com)
6. Turn your article into a video
7. submit it to YouTube (also, for video sharing, you need to use either TubeMogul or TrafficGuyser. They will launch your video out to so many other places it's ricidulous, which will get even more exposure for them)
8. Embed your video on your blog, then copy and paste the corresponding article you wrote underneath that video so you have a new blog post with both video and written content.
9. Ping your new blog post using a service such as Pingler.com
10. Update all your social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc) with the fact that you just updated your blog and you'd like some comments on it
That's it. Honestly, those steps above are something you should be doing on a daily basis in addition to whatever else you do for traffic. If you're going for SEO, you can target specific keywords for your articles and videos to rank for, using each article or video to send traffic back to a certain page on your website (corresponding to that keyword).
If you use Traffic Guyser as I mentioned in the process, you can actually get your videos ranked pretty easily and highly for longer-tailed keywords, all in a matter of a day or so. It's such an amazing tool.
As for SEO, outsource any backlinking. You need to be spending your time doing more important things. Backlinking is tremendously important, but you just shouldn't be spending your own time doing it. Systematize it and outsource it, which is the right way to do any traffic generation technique. This whole system I outlined in this post is outsource-able too, apart from the video perhaps.
And that's it man. I'd test this out for a week or so, I guarantee you'll see some rockin results.

Directory submission is one way to make your site become visible.
You need to make sure you start small and then finish big. This is the big key to the Google Content Network. You want to make sure you start off with a small amount of traffic and keywords, get those profitable and then ramp up your campaign to maximize the amount of traffic you are getting.
I started one campaign with only a few keywords and now I have over 80,000 in that account! If you keep doing it and working it, then you will see results and you won't go broke in the process of getting those results.
Don't just hope for the best - work to get it the right way and when it comes, it will be better then you ever imagined.
So many wonderful answer here, I have learned much.
