Data Recovery
hello everyone...I need some big help fast. We have on our main computer ~50 documents with years of research and millions of dollars. Just before we were making a partition with partitionmagic...it failed, and we couldn't boot windows. So we reformatted with XP. Is there any way IN THE WORLD that we can get this data back? thanks a lot

We call it Partition-Tragic. Sorry about your problem.
I use several programs to recover data from a formatted drive. GetDataBack or PowerDataRecovery are 2 that I use successfully. The only parameter you have to adhere to is that you must recover to a drive other than the one you are recovering from. A zip drive or external HD work well.
You probably have figured this out already but...back up, back up, back up.

thanks for your quick reply. before i saw this message, i found a tool called r-tools. It was recommended to me by my friend...so right now im giving that a go. Before I leave I will also try your recommended programs to see what those can recover. I learned the hard way to BACKUP always...we got an external lacie hard drive as our backup destination... ill post my results tomorrow.
thanks again

Hello silentline3x was you able to get back your data, you haven't replied back what actually happened. If you are still in mess and looking for recovery then you can try Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software. It has worked for, so you can give a try to this utility as well.
Anyway just let us know which recovery tools has worked best for you.

Sorry I haven't replied in a while... I have successfully resolved this issue, without the need for a professional service. I went quickly to restoring everything, without thinking of giving a reply.
So anyway, after the partition error, we reformatted the hard drive to ntfs with a fresh, blank copy of windows xp. A friend of mine that is an IT professional for miller brewery led me to a couple solutions, as well as roban. None of the ones my friend gave me worked, until I stumbled on R Studio...It scanned the reformatted hd and told me there were excel documents, word documents, that weren't on the new install. But that software was $80 to restore anything larger than 80 Kb. So i restored everything with that. But I tried PowerDataRecovery, which roban recommended, didn't restore with it but scanned that hd, and it too successfully found the old, written over files.
Thanks for the fast help. I hope that my solution will help you guys on the forum. I was amazed that a program like this can actually find files on a drive that has been written over! Not that ill want to try it again.....lol
