Looking for feedback on Adept Financials.net

Hello:
I have been searching for an integrated accounting/CRM/e-commerce software package for a new business venture. We are intending to sell mostly B2B, with muliple sales reps and warehouse locations. Key features are all the obvious ones but I want to make sure that our reps, customers and warehouse will have access to the software to place orders, check order status and have the website integrated as well for those who are not any of the above constituents.
I have been looking hard at Netsuite (demos and all) as they are the most established in the market, but I have also looked at Interprise and Evolution as possibilities. My two biggest issues with Netsuite is the cost (both upfront and never ending) and with the internet connectivity, ie., no one site data.
On another post, someone suggested Adept Financial.NET from Comtech Solutions as another possibility. From the looks of the product, they appear to offer what Netsuite does, only with a purchased product on a your own server.
Is anyone out there familiar with Adept Financials.NET or Comtech? Anyone using this product? or Compared it to Netsuite? Or has used Adept CRM part of the product in relation to Netsuite?

Hi,

Adept Financial .NET is a fine program but it is not designed to run over the Internet. It is more like Everest, designed to run over a LAN.

Are you looking for something you can install locally and still connect to over the Internet?

Hi. Actually, I was interested in running locally, but to allow sales reps and customers access to selected areas to look up information, which would be accomplished throught the internet. Also, I wanted the website linked so that prospects/catalog requestors automatically get added to the database, inventory items and prices are linked.
I have looked at the Interprise software, too, BTW. Initially I wrote them/you off because when I called the phone number listed on the website, I got a person who was clueless about my questions and was ESL. Not a good feeling to start with...
Digging deeper, I ran a lot of the Interprise demos and screen shots and read all the comments on this forum and the e-commerce forum. However, the InterpriseSuite is not out yet with the e-commerce capabilities, and it will be from a third party provider anyway. This too doesn't give me a good feeling, having endured from many years the finger pointing going on between various software and hardware providers in the computer industry "oh that is the other software causing the problem, not ours...you need to talk to them."
Have you put together a side by side feature comparison of Netsuite vs InterpriseSuite? That would be cool to see.

Wouldn't a VPN allow them to access your intranet from the web?

Just wanted to touchbase and understand that you are looking for a integrated software, which has capability for remote logon, powerful e-commerce, CRM integration, Sales, purchasing, inventory mgmt, accounting etc..

I have followed this market closely and have provided solution that ties into this softwares, here are my views about it...

1. NetSuite is grt product backed by Oracle, watch their pricing and also it is hosted solution with no POS
2. Interprise suite is new comer and I'm also following their beta and it is growing good with recent addition of e-commerce which is so powerful and SEO ready, and has some valuable features out of the box......
3. Evolution is another product in same category as Interprise suite, based of canada
4. Finally you have Everest software, integrated package, cost a bit but equivalent compared to NetSuite pricing, plus point it is not hosted so you have host it locally, remote sales rep login cld be achieved through VPN/RDC/Citirx or a web based solution can be tailored ...

I understand your needs much better now.

Since you are not looking to have your business accessible over the internet you have many options to choose from. Best bet is to find which solution works best for you and then have a web programmer create a few web pages to meet your needs. Harsha at info source has a great reputation and can help you accomplish your eCommerce goals affordably.

Since the program you asked about has been on the marketplace for a long time now the company should have no problem providing you with a list of companies that are using it for you to contact. This is common. When I worked at Industrious Software Solutions we would routinely give out a few dozen companies as references. Also be sure to ask of the product cycle release dates. An application that takes several years between major releases will quickly become outdated.

Thank you for your feedback re: Interprise Solutions. I can understand your concern. Most of our sales staff is still in training so they are not always the best people to talk to for complex questions. For beta members we have setup a beta forum where users can communicate directly with the programmers and system architects. This is the best place to get information until the application is released. Sometimes your questions will even prompt us to add a new feature to the program.

I understand your caution of the fact that we are partnering with another company to create our web module. This partnership is a very good thing for our customers. First, we are working together with them to create a fully integrated solution. There will not be any “web based” admin screens – everything will be setup directly inside Interprise Suite. This solution will be based off the Interprise Suite table structure so no “import / export” will be necessary. Although AspDotNetStorefront will own the rights to the finished product, Interprise Solutions will be doing most of the conversion programming. According to Comtech Solutions, their adept software is run locally but outside users could access it via something called .NET. Is that similar to the AJAX deal that netsuite runs under?

I will ask for some references from Comtech for other current users.

They are priced very competitively, which makes me a bit cautious.

Hi,

.Net is microsoft's technology which is their newest version for web. It is dynamic pages serving client's request which will in turn connect to backend database, just like how MS outlook is used in-house and on the web it is called WebAccess...

Netsuite uses AJAX a little advanced technology in terms of user interface but still uses web technologies to interact...

If you are looking for scalable product then I wld recommend either NetSuite or Everest software, Interprise is on same lines but still in beta and has its own advantages as one software... Can't comment on Comtech as of now ...

Since .NET is a programming framework their answer does not make too much sense. Be sure to have them show you how it works before spending any money.

After spending close to 15k on Comtech Adept.net software and portal for our company www.drivewire.com , we could not get the accounting system to work as described. There is absolutely no support, and they can not even get you the information on how to import or export data. After we purchased the product based on their answers to our questions, we asked them to demonstrate, live, use of the product as they had said it would work, and they could not. The software is developed in the Philippines, and has no local developer support. We tried to get our money back, and they said they delivered source code and there would be no refunds. This even though they said they would refund the application if it did not work. In my opinion Comtech is a fraudulent company that delivers an unusable product.

Ouch - sounds like you got burned. I find it odd, however - Comtech is a company based in Huston, Texas - so your assertion that there is "no local developer support" is odd. If they promised refunds based on nonperformance (you got that in writing, correct?) and they are not delivering, you could just sue them.

But you should be careful with such negative blanket statements that seem to be incorrect (just Google for "comtech adept.net" and you'll get Comtech's website, which says they're based in Huston), because they can be the basis for libel and slander suits against you. You may want to elaborate on your comments about "no local developer support"...

Correct, that is thier sales office. The developers are offshore.
I stick by my statements. And yes I have sent this to our counsel.. Issue is, We are in Southern Cal, and we would have to sue them in Houston. this would cost way more than 15k. So live and learn. I just caution anyone from doing business with them.

As a disclaimer I was one of the project managers of Adept and as part of lawsuit settlement I am now the co-owner of the Adept application. I do not work for comtech solutions anymore, I work for Interprise Solutions now.

Comtech is located in Houston and has a development office in the Philippines. As of the time i left, Access programming was done in Houston and .NET programming was done in the Philippines.

For companies outgrowing quickbooks that have no interest in the internet, Adept is a good fit. For those companies I have made Adept freely available at...

The problem comes when sales people (and companies) represent that the program does things that it was not designed to do to close a sale.

You can see such representation here in this thread on Furnitureguys post on 12-12-2005 "According to Comtech Solutions, their adept software is run locally but outside users could access it via something called .NET." Hopefully Furnitureguy read infosourcing and my posts before taking their word for it (.NET is an application framework and by itself has nothing to do with connecting over the internet).

I believe that your problem is not in the fact that the programmers are located in the Philippines since they can easily do a webmeeting to show you how to use the code. We do this all the time and with great results. Most likely, you were not provided any developer guide or API documentation to get you started and it looks like the company was not willing to give you any help once they got your money - which is unfortunate.

I know a few developers both here in the U.S. and overseas that can help you with the Adept .NET code and i would be more than happy to introduce you to them if you like.

Finally, call your credit card company and have them issue a chargeback. You often have up until 180 days from the date of the statement to charge them back.
