Shopping cart recommendation

Wife and I are starting up a small Natural Bath and Body internet store..

Started with Zen Cart,because it was free, all in one and had support...

Looking to switch....

Some features and nots...

My own host
Purchase software out right
Customizable using Dreamweaver, frontpage etc...
Reasonable price..

Found a dream solution, but 2500 a year was a little steep..



Currently looking at cart genie


Any recommendations or information is appreciated...

Can you specify why do you looking to switch ?

We are on our second shopping cart. We switched to
Shopsite a few years ago and haven't looked back. (The
first one was a disaster). We let our hosting service
take care of the software side of it.

I can't say how they compare with others, though.
We get about 50 orders per day and everything works
very smoothly. I haven't run into something that I
wanted to do that wasn't supported.

They have a good forum and quick support.

I use econostores. The most cost effective solution I could find but looks good. Great support.

My company uses osCommerce or CRE Loaded for clients that need to cut costs upfront. But for a long term solution we use ASPDOTNET Store Front. It is 100% customized able and developed in the latest .Net Arch.

Has anyone used Interspire Shopping Cart?

I've been using Ultracart for over a year and their reliability is just terrible. The site goes down every weekend and my customers can't order. Their customer service is unresponsive when this occurs -- nobody there to answer my calls, etc. I'm actively looking for another cart. Wish I had never heard of Ultracart.

LOL. Free and open source is fine for tech savvy people. But if you deal with business owners who don't understand FTP or anything like that then managing open source software isn't for them. Example, if there is a security problem (which there will be) then the owner has to do the work to patch the problem versus other solutions which do this for them. So open source is fine, but it is not for everybody.

you will get so many answeres to a question like that. everyone has there own reasons for using a certain cart. The best thing to do is reaserch, and ask yourself, do you want to do it yourself or hire someone, or a little of both. you can find great carts that you can set up and put the inventory in yourself and mabey hire someone to customize.

the best think to do is reaserch and try the demos and check out thier forums or better yet. call them and talk to someone.

I know that when I was searching for a new provider, I would not even consider something that did not allow me a free trial period. Since I was going to have to handle all the "design" and had NO experience, this was very important to me. I found Volusion best suited my needs and experience level. It may or may not be for you, but be sure that you can "test drive" any solution you are interested in prior to laying out a lot of cash.

Sorry, it's a bit off-topic since no real recommendation for a product. But I want point out this quote from DavidM1. I can just agree 200% to his statement :-)

So you should consider the following when looking for a shopping cart or any other business software:

1. Does it fulfill my current requirements ?
2. Is the solution adaptable to future demands ?
3. What kind of customer service / additional support is provided ?

If all this is met, then you should have a look at the price and compare similar solutions whether or not they fit into your budget.
