Question what about all those shopping (PPC) sites

    Hi,
I've been enjoying reading the very useful posts on this forum.
I've read quite a few but surely not all.

My question is about shopping sites and PPC. I have a long list of sites I could PPC on like Shopzilla, Shop.com, Amazon, Pricegrabber, Shopping.com and many others. I've been hesitant to throw money at all of these. Can anyone help me understand the value of these sites for my online niche clothing and gift store?

    Thanks!

If you are going to start using PPC advertising you should choose PPC providers that are a close niche to your own "clothing" as this will result in the most targeted clicks and best possible conversion rate.

toniaxp, thanks for your reply. I think I get your point but are you saying some PPC sites are more directed? I'm trying to understand if they're even worth the effort and how many I should use.

PPC are great for smaller business's, They allow the little guy who can afford TV/Radio ads to have an equal chance at a sale as the bigger corporations. Be careful though, if you market wrong, you will get lots of click and very low CTR.

Amazon is not PPC, they charge a % of the cost of the item and also handle payment, etc.

As for the others, you can give most a try for a couple of hundred dollars.

PPC shopping engines work great if you sell name brand products and your pricing or breadth of inventory is good.

Give it a try, the downside risk is not huge.

No Doubt, PPC is very Good tool for new business, but simultaneously it also important to Choose right PPC Provider,, Here I would Link to mention Google Adword tool, it quite good and have facility to segregate visitor as per choice,

I do not have very good experience with yahoo(overtur PPC too), it generate a lot FRAUD click.

My suggestion is to every PPC advertiser, either understand the all facility provided by PPC provider or HIRE good SEM company.

    thanks.

I've tried a variety of PPC options including both Shopping.com and Shopzilla. I got a lot of clicks from them, but didn't get as many sales as I would have liked. If you think about it, visitors to those sites browse through the products as though they are in a store. They must click each product just to get a closer look at it (which costs you every time). Most of those sites have ROI code that can be used to track your conversions, which can help you decide for yourself if it's beneficial. You've got to be able to put the code on your order confirmation page for it to work. Personally, I liked Google Adwords better - by making your keywords very specific to your business, you're more likely to get some customers in who'd like to browse your store (instead of just glancing at an item).

    FineWoodenToys,

Do you have an active link exchange program for your site?

    Hi Sarge,

Yeah, I do link exchanges. Whenever I have some spare time (HA) I try to hunt down more quality, relevant sites to trade with. Only 10-20% ever respond, but it's definately worth it. I get requests, too, but lately most have been requests to do three-way trades. I'm not falling for it.

    Dear bubbasplitshot,

    We've used BizRate/Shopzilla, Pricegrabber, and Shopping.com.
BizRate/Shopzilla and Pricegrabber are easy to budget for, and easy to work with. You can provide ftp feeds to them both (slightly different content and formats).
Shopping.com was not easy to budget. We dropped them when they continually flooded us with traffic for one day after we pre-paid for what we hoped would be a month's traffic. If the traffic had resulted in sales, I would be only mildly annoyed. But the traffic seemed to contain a lot of click-fraud or casual lookers, very few sales.

The best thing about all these sites is the customer ratings feature. It is truly independent, you have no control over it. But if you are doing a good job of customer service, it's a great way for the public to find out about it. It does take a while for a small retailer to accumulate enough reviews to be meaningful.

Why don't you just try Froogle first and see what they are like. Froogle is a free service offered by Google

    Hi

Sorry I didn't jump in here earlier, I only picked ths thread up today. I want to draw your attention to the difference between SHOP.COM and Shopping.com.

Shopping.com is a CPC/PPC service of the type you are talking about here, previously known as Dealtime.

SHOP.COM however is a cost per order site that works in a very different way, only charging for completed orders.

Confession: I work for SHOP.COM so I wont get into the pitch here but if you want more details drop me a line.

Try to create a feed file for Froogle and Bing. These two big website has free services for merchants like you.

As for paid product listings, try to research more on their category taxonomy and weigh whether your products best suits that shopping engine.
