Design & Color suggestions on website...

Currently my site is a work in progress. I am having to find a new supplier at the moment and only have a few products listed, as well as having several pages to finish (about us, etc)

Basically I am just wanting opinions on how the site looks and such. I am wanting to change the color scheme to brighten it up but not sure what colors to use, and am open to suggetions. I am working off of a template and am looking for ways to make the site more colorful yet professional. I can easily change any of the colors or graphics (nav bar, background, etc) but I defiently want to leave the blackboard header, or atleast the theme of it in place.

Any help or advise would be appreciated, thanks.

p.s. Eventually I want to create a seperate area called The Hangout that has fun DIY science projects, articles, and forums to discuss the products and other educational topics. Does anyone know how difficult it would be to implement a seperate forum, or atleast a link to a forum? Thanks

I'm not wild about the yellow background. On higher resolutions it is distracting. When in doubt I go to Color Combos

I'm afraid nothing really jumps out at me as being terrible. I don't think it looks bad at all

Well I made a few changes, I changed the background color to a tan, lower the nav bar, and rounded its corners as well as the headers, let me know whatyou think, thanks.

The yellow background wouldn't bother me much. But I would make the left and right column in a different color than white, in order to give the whole design a less boring but more attractive appearance. If you use darker colors than the background is, it would be great and for shure your visitors would find the site more interesting, because the pages are going to contrast much better with the background. The colors for the columns could be either in the dark brown of the nav bar or the dark green from the header, in order not to mix up to many different colors. The text should be in white then.
Like this it wouldn't be to bad, if you keep the area for the articles in white or just slightly toned.

definitely better. I had to see it to realize it but the tan background definitely improves the overall look. That's what it needed.

Cool site. I enjoyed looking at Einstein in your header. It may not be the most original looking site I have ever seen but I think it has it looks great. Simple yet appealing
