    eCommerce in the US

Can anyone point me in the direction of an article that covers the varying state and city retail tax laws and rates across the US?

We are a UK based eCommerce service provider however we have an existing customer who wants to grow her business in the US.

    Any help, advice much appreciated.
    Regards,

I'm from the US, so I don't know the exact way to direct you, but I would assume your local legislature should have a book full of the different taxing districts, or contact your nation's commerce department.

Unfortunately there isn't one place to get all of this information. You pretty much much need to contact each state to find out their specific information and get the contact information for the counties and/or municipalities if necessary (which it isn't always).

Usually, if the customer is in California and the product is shipped to someone in California - a tax is charged. If the product is shipped somewhere else, no tax is usually not charged.

However, depending on the ZIP code, the tax could be different. There are some tax tables in some electronic payment gateways that is sometimes useful when used. But you should have her check with an accountant knowledgable on the matter.

If your client does charge sales tax for an individual living in Colorado, then your client must also pay the taxes to the State.

Need advice on taxing in California

    Hello ALL,
I live in California , and have some items are currently on eBay . This is my first time in this business ( I quited my job as a software developer consultant .. big title, hard work, and no glory . ) Anyway ,there is the tax table on eBay that I can put in the number that Californian should pay . But as Corey said, every zipcode charge difference . Would you please tell me how much I should put in for the tax ? I'd like to do the right thing for government purpose , but never want my customers feel that they get "ripoff" .
Many many thanks in advance .
