    Wireless printer networking

Does anyone have any experience with wireless print servers made by SMC? I need to share a printer between three laptops in a trailer that is not wired for networking. I would like to do it wirelessly and this SMC wireless print server supposedly will allow me to create an ad hoc print sharing network with no need for a access point or a wireless router, as long as the laptops have wireless network access cards. Has anyone made this work? What model did you use? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

From my understanding, that's exactly what the SMC Wireless Printer Server allows you to do. In fact, we recently reviewed the product.
Here's brief excerpt that addresses your question:

"With ad hoc mode, you don't need an access point or wireless router. All you need is a bunch of computers with wireless network access cards configured for ad hoc networking. With the wireless network server also set up for ad hoc mode, any properly configured wireless computer within range can send jobs to it."

The section "Improv at the Printer" is probably most relevant to your question.

    Hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply. I have read the article, but can find no reference on the SMC web site to the part numbers given in the article. Where can I get brochures, cut sheets, pricing info?
