Web Site Optimization and Marketing Tip

I am a newly established website and while I am very versed in fine jewelry in every aspect my limited knowledge of web site marketing is limited. I would really appreciate any feedback of ideas for website optimization, any marketing tips in additional to any recommendations for a Marketing company if that is the best option.

Well the 1st tips for SEO (search engine optimization) are, use text links where possible, write semantically correct HTML, don't use flash for navigation, put keywords in metatags, in plain text on the page, and most importantly, the page title is crawled 1st by bots, so put something descriptive of your product in there.

Something you should change quickly are your urls. Having better urls are good for search engines and they look nicer for customers. For example your product page for the Sea of Sparkles ring has this url...
    http://www.signaturediamondgems.com/...d&productId=82

it would be much better if the url was more like this...
    http://www.signaturediamondgems.com/...f_sparkles.htm

the above url may be tough to create but an easy one that can be created in a couple minutes of work would be like this...
    http://www.signaturediamondgems.com/products/82

The above url can be done easily by adding a rewrite rule in your .htaccess file

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !-s
    RewriteRule ^products/(.*) /index.php?act=viewProd&productId=$1

I didn't realize that your site sold CZ until I saw a small bit of text at the top. The text within your site tells search engines what exactly you sell. If you include words like "cubic zirconia" or "diamond replica" within category headings, metatags, alt tags, or text in your site, it will ensure that Google search engine spiders will consider your site very relevant for people searching for these terms. This makes it easier to market specifically to the customers who want to buy what you sell.

If you do not have many references to CZ or diamond replica, Google will lump your site with all the other sites that use more generic references to jewelry. If you Google "diamond jewelry," you will see that this is a very competitive field and you will probably get lost in this mix.

If an SEO firm does not catch this, they are not paying attention.

I would also love any such input regarding my site. We sell a very unique gift product- chocolate flower bouquets. So marketing is very easy for us in the sense that almost everyone is part of our target audience- however it is also very difficult at the same time since gift sites are abundant and competition is fierce. Any input would be very appreciated! www.thesweetgarden.com

One of the smartest and safest marketing strategies that any business owner can utilize is the strategy of only paying for performance. Pay for performance marketing means your marketing dollars are spent only on results: additional sales and profits. Learn how Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Search Engine campaigns work
