    There are many tools for both blackhat and whitehat. For image size optimization I prefer Yahoo smush it

    Google adwords is best to search keywords and open site explorer is best to check competitor backlinks.

    Google Adwards is the good SEO tool for keyword research. But SEOmoz in the best SEO tool, though it is paid, but it is the best SEO tool

    blog commenting, article submissions, web 2.0 sites I believe it's also important to have a great website content. I've read an ebook about it and it entails how you can possibly build a business plan using internet marketing tools without risking too much.     Screaming Frog is excellent if you know how to interpret the results.
    Free Monitor for Google is a great free tool for monitoring your rankings.
    Wordtracker used to be excellent for keyword research, but they've changed the interface and made it less informative and confusing to use. Google's free keyword tool is almost as good now, IMO.
    Tracking inbound links is critical, and there really isn't a good free tool for doing that. Webposition have one of the best paid tools

    I use seobook and seoquake for in depth seo analysis. I use Google keyword tool and SEMrush for keyword analysis tools.

    You nothing in free. There are many paid seo tool available on line which helps to analyze on page and backlinks. You can also analyze your competitor backlinks and you will also get to know how many links are required to beat your competitors.
    seosuilte , seopowrsuite, seosoftware review etc. are best tools
