    Can Penguins Fly?

Google's algorithm has had another update, code-named Penguin. Why? Google's Spamfuhrer, Matt Cutts, explains in a blog post. Ahhh! To improve quality. Needn't have bothered reading that, need we? It is what he always says.

What are the effects of Penguin on link-builders? Apparently:

    1. Too much anchor-text optimisation will be discounted. If all of your inbound links have the anchor text, "real estate new york", then some of the link-juice will be discounted as unnatural.

    2. Out-of-context links will be discounted. If you post on an SEO forum, but your sig-link says, "limo services chicago", then much of the link-juice will be discounted as unnatural.

Will this signal the demise of spam on this forum? Perhaps, in time.

Has anybody noticed their websites moving down in serps? (Mine have all stayed in place, or improved. )

Once again, C0ldf1re, I agree with you. Almost ALL of Google's updates are aimed at SPAM and blackhat/greyhat SEO. None of my site's has moved any significant degree but a few minor internal pages rose significantly.

As to whether or not this Penguin thing will result in less SPAM here ... I won't hold my breath. The folks that depend on SPAM seem not to catch on very quickly.

This is a hot topic of late. Also goes along with the Panda Update in combination with the Penguin Update. Eventually the tide will turn again, it always does, because someone will find a way to curve the algorithm to their favor. SPAM will forever exist, the attempts to get rid of or remove it are varied far and wide. The key for most will be good quality posts that continue to give readers and clients a value with coming to.

All the more reason to focus on high-quality, original, useful content and not to abuse any techniques. Penguin hit hard at link spam. Many people relied heavily on linking for a long time, without regard for their content. Google is getting loud and clear about what it wants. Unfortunately, some high quality sites got caught in the "tuna net."

But original quality - which creates organic traffic and backlinks - is the name of the game.
    Warm Regards,

It is the drop in serps that has siteowners howling. Nobody has mentioned PR.

(Would a PR drop show up immediately? Are Google not still updating PR only every 3 months or so?)

Not sure about immediate, but there was a recent update. One of sites fell from 4 to 3 and another rose from 3 to 4. Neither moved in SERPs. All the rest stayed the same in both PR and SERPs.

Google' Penguin Update are looking for sites that are spam, sites get devalued if they found that you violate Google webmaster rules..This update also gives way to those newbie sites that has a great potential, has a quality and unique content..Also the title of your sites, Google doesn't like the keyword | keyword type of title, they want a more descriptive one..

One of the ways to recover from being hit by Google Penguin is using internal linking in your own site/blog to diversify your backlinking pattern and to show that your content is on topic. And by the way spam sites and blogs do not use interlinking a lot as they usually a lot of content which is not related to the same topic (i.e. articles unrelated to each other people pay for to include to the site to get backlinks). Sometime it requires a lot of manual work to interlink content which spammers are reluctant to do as well. See how Wikipedia interlinks its related articles and you will understand what the golden standard is.

I think that will be problem for smallbusiness site, as their site does not have good content for inter page linking, so those site is heavily depend on external backlink.
