Good list. The rules really helpful.
-
Customer Loyalty is most important. Rate of returning customers needs to be maintained as high as possible.
-
The keys will be marketing (SEO, Pinterest, etc) and making sure you're selling a product that has a demand
-
For my personal opinion a customer relationship is essential. Keep quality customer relationship and satisfy your client needs is the key of success.

The number one most important rule is to plan. Think about what you want your e-commerce site to do for you. Write it out on paper and draw what you think it should look like. Think about the name of the site; is their a conflict with an existing brick and mortar store of the same name, is the e-commerce site another sales venue for an existing brick and mortar store? You want your site to be easily remembered but because your site is your brand and not someone else's. Think about a niche to fit into.
The second rule is to research. It may be that others have your planned name already so you'll need to make some modification to the chosen site name. You may find in your research that your chosen niche is highly competitive which in some cases may be good but in other cases may be not so good. You may find that your niche isn't competitive and depending on the number of search hits that will be good or bad.
The third rule is to begin to action the plan. Register your site name, put the design of the site into action. Start advertising the site. Get feedback from the clients.
The fourth rule is to review the plan in action. Watch the results of the site. Is it a good fit for your clients? Look at the client feedback.
The fifth rule is to plan to change. Take the review data and make changes based on client feedback and overall results.
The sixth rule is action the changes. Continue to get feedback from the clients.
The seventh rule is make sure the advertising gives enough detail to make the viewer interested in looking further.
The eighth rule is continue to review and change. You can never leave a site static if you want to give value and continued service. You must always provide fresh advertising.
The ninth rule is to enjoy what you have accomplished in putting the site together and then do it again. Success leads to more success and that is what we should strive for.
The tenth rule is to put your good work into publication for others benefits. In short this is a form of advertising but can be beneficial for those who wish to do something similar. They may pay good money for your knowledge.

I have a domain name that ranked num 1 on Google for over 3 years as a blog/affiliate site. I wish to develope this domain into a e-commerce site and need advice on the best hosting outfit, (for as little cost as possible) as well as where to find reliable drop shippers. The products are motorcycle helmets, all motorcycle related parts and clothing. This is going to be on a shoe-string budget so cost is a major concern. Basically I wish to get the site out of parking, e-commerce it up, reach num 1 again and then sell the site. Appreciate any helpful info you guys can provide.
