Yes you are right not every sites get suffered but now many junk sites are up and many high quality sites are down. i should say now Google policy is that every one should get businesses

Both are needed but I'd SEO is more important. Most site generates most of their traffic from Google, and to get indexed by Google you need SEO.

You should do anything and everything you feel you can do properly in order to get traffic to your site, so both will be the best option.

SEO for long term organic traffic, in my opinion, is the more important option, but only if you get it right. SMM is fine for short term traffic, but again only if you do it right, as there's a right and wrong way to do everything in online marketing.

I think you should doing both - SEO and SMM.
anything that can contribute to your website, should be done.
there isn't the right method, if you can do both, do it. you will only gain from it.
Like others here said, the SMM is for the short term, you can start with it. the SEO is for the long term- you should keep doing it all the time.

it depends on what you're trying to do. generally, when people are on facebook, they're not in the 'purchasing mindset'. social media is better for branding, SEO will get you more qualified traffic that is ready to convert.

There's much more to SEO than backlinks. MUCH more. And without most of it, all the backlinks in the world will not make your site prominent or competitive in SERPs.
