Looking for a good bar code scanner/software?

I have been looking for a good customer database program for my business but I'm also looking for a good bar code scanner. I've seen quite a few available but most of all I'm looking for the best software to use it with?
For now I'm using Quickbooks Pro for Windows as my inventory program so if I get something that interfaces with that it would be great but it seems Quickbooks out of the box doesn't do that. I am also hoping to switch to the Mac version of Quickbooks but am worried I'll have a harder time finding a scanner solution.
What I will use this for is reading in new inventory when it comes in and also scanning it as it is shipped out.

As far as I know, bar code scanners work as a second keyboard, just reading the characters in from the barcode. You basically just select a text field, and scan. I don't believe I even installed a driver.

We use a Symbol LS 2208, and have had good success with it.

We use Opticons for desktop scanners (attached via USB or serial) at work. I have some PDA's with Symbol scanners built in. Symbol makes a pretty good product.

    Here's a great bolt-on for Quickbooks:

    really nice application.

If you want something simpler than that, try:

    Yet another for QB:

You can try http://www.amplexus.com. A friend of mine runs his business using their solution.

    Hope this helps!

My apologies to retrieve and old post but

I am currently in a similar situation where our shipping and receiving has grown to the point where we need a scanning system. This is new territory for us and a bit of guidance would be greatly appreciated. I have looked into WASP and a few others. The guidance that I have been given is that this is for inventory counting purposes first then to be brought in gradually after it has been proven that this is a viable option. Again any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Pete

I think you can try Chronos eStockCard Inventory Software, it is compatible with barcode system. You can download their Free Edition to have a try. Hope it helps.

You may now skip the bar code scanning for ship ins and outs with this sales order management. Better watch this video first to understand better on how to monitor your inventory count, and this video too - play to 1:00 to skip the intro.
