What are some natural methods to help me go to sleep and beat insomnia?

Same problem. Last month I have insomnia. I can't sleep right now. I'm just lying in my bed and reading my law essay.

I heard about a method to lay down and starting to relax different body parts, letting go of all tensions. You start with your head/face, then the shoulders, arms, chest, legs and finally the feet. After that you are supposed to visualize yourself in a small boat on a calm lake with all blue sky. Then you're supposed to fall asleep. Maybe you can try that?
